The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 342

“You—!” Leanne’s hand shot out before Danielle could react, landing a sharp slap across her face. “How dare you!”

“You’ve got no shame! Who do you think you are, talking to me like that?” Leanne’s eyes flashed cold. “You and your mother are both worthless. Do you hear me?”

The smack sent a wave of dizziness crashing over Danielle, the sting spreading across her cheek until half her face felt numb.

She swayed unsteadily where she stood, barely managing to keep her balance.

But then Danielle raised her own hand and, with all the force she could muster, slapped Leanne right back.

The sound echoed—crisp, loud, impossible to ignore.

Leanne’s head jerked to the side. She stared at Danielle in utter disbelief. “You actually dared to hit me? Who do you think you are?”

She’d never imagined Danielle would fight back—never thought she’d have the nerve.

Leanne’s face hardened as she stepped forward, ready to retaliate.

“What do you think you’re doing?”

A low, icy voice cut through the tension. Danielle suddenly felt her wrist seized, and in the next instant, she was pulled behind a man’s broad back.

Alexander had returned at some point, his presence cold and almost menacing.

“Alex, you’re finally back! Did you see what your ex-wife just did? She hit me!” Leanne’s voice trembled with outrage. “I’m her elder, and she dared to lay a hand on me!”

Alexander glanced back at her, eyes dark and unreadable.

Danielle knew that look all too well.

She let out a cold laugh, her lips pale as she lifted her gaze to Leanne. “What’s wrong? Are you going to defend your dear mother-in-law now?”

“If that’s what you want—fine. We won’t use this room.” Alexander looked down at Danielle’s face, his voice carefully neutral. “Go pack up your things.”

“Alex,” Leanne tried again, her tone tight with disbelief. “How could you—”

How could he give up the room for Danielle? This was supposed to be theirs. Baillie needed it more!

Millie spoke up then. “Mom, I already talked it over with Alex. There’s a better room available.”

She shot Danielle a look. “Whatever happened, you shouldn’t have hit my mother. You owe her an apology.”

Millie stood firm beside her mother, indignant that Danielle would dare hit an elder.

Danielle’s eyes went cold as she turned to Millie. “An apology?”

A bitter smile touched her lips. “The door was open. The security camera across the hall caught everything that happened.”

Danielle lowered her gaze, pulled out her phone, and dialed 911.

She briefly explained the incident to the dispatcher, then hung up and looked up, her expression icy. “When the police get here, if they say I should apologize, I’ll do as they say.”

“You—” Millie was stunned by Danielle’s defiance.

“Is this really necessary for something so minor?” she protested.

Leanne finally realized she’d gone too far.

“So—what do we do now? She said she’s going to tell everyone how you ‘ruined’ their marriage.”

She was still fuming.

Millie took a deep breath. “Mom, I never ruined their marriage. Even while they were married—and now, after their divorce—Alex and I have always just been close, like brother and sister. There’s never been anything improper.”

Leanne’s eyes widened as the truth clicked into place.

Yes, that was right—everyone knew Millie and Alexander had grown up together, nothing more.

“She’s already called the police,” Leanne said, finally calming down. “What do we do?”

“What else? Danielle’s not the type to hold a grudge if you make things right. Just apologize and settle this privately.”

The VIP ward was a ways from the general rooms.

Danielle stared at the ground as she walked, her steps growing more unsteady, her head swimming. The sting of that slap still echoed in her mind, leaving her ears ringing.

When she tried to climb the stairs, her legs felt like lead. She stumbled, catching her foot on the step and pitching forward.

She crashed down hard, her knees and elbows scraping against the floor, the pain sharp enough to make her gasp.
