"He's not going to outrun us forever. We'll get him."
The two men nodded, a hard edge of determination settling in their eyes.
As the SUV navigated the bustling streets of Penang, the tropical scenery blurred past the windows.
This exotic city, teeming with hidden dangers and underground networks, hadn't been enough to hold Harold Chapman, nor had it given them the closure they desperately needed.
But Alex didn't feel a shred of defeat. He knew this wasn't the end of the line—it was merely the start of a new hunt.
Harold was a cunning predator who had retreated back into the shadows, but he would inevitably make a mistake. He would step out of line, and the trap would snap shut.
And Alex was perfectly willing to be the patient hunter, waiting for the precise moment to deliver the killing blow.
The airport was a sea of chaotic energy. Alex and the team cleared security and boarded their flight back to the States.
The plane taxied down the runway before tearing into the sky, piercing through the dense cloud cover as it set a course for Ashford.
Cruising above the clouds, they were finally heading home.
Alex leaned his head against the window, closing his eyes. The image of Danielle's bright smile and Niki's adorable little face drifted through his mind, pulling a soft, unconscious smirk to his lips.
No matter what storms lay ahead, no matter where Harold tried to bury himself, Alex was going to make it back to his girls. He was finally going to give Danielle the wedding vow renewal they had delayed for far too long.
And as for that slippery bastard, he could build all the safe houses he wanted, but eventually, one of those bunkers was going to become his grave.
Back at the estate in Ashford, Danielle was busy cleaning Alex's bedroom with Niki 'helping' her. She aired out his heavy comforter and started prepping ingredients for his welcome-home dinner.
