"Or is she your boss? What gives her the right to make you carry her bag and fetch her coffee? She knows exactly who you are here. She's doing this on purpose to humiliate you."
Hearing Danielle's outrage cracked the dam on the frustration Kirsten had been holding back.
She slumped onto the sofa in the lounge and let out a long sigh. The fierce anger in her eyes dissolved into pure exhaustion. "It's fine. It's just petty stuff. I can handle it."
"How is this petty?"
Danielle snapped, her brow furrowing. "She's deliberately trying to break you. Workplace competition is one thing, but this is crossing a line."
"If you don't want to deal with this garbage, don't. Quit. With your resume, you can easily find a better job."
Kirsten shook her head. She picked up one of the lattes and took a small sip.
"I can't quit. I need this job."
Her voice was barely above a whisper. "I don't want to be tied down by the past anymore. I don't want to rely on favors. I want to build my own career at Summit with my own two hands."
"This little bit of hazing? I can survive it."
She knew Danielle meant well, but she couldn't just walk away.
She had come too far and swallowed too much pride to throw it all away over a bruised ego.
Seeing the fierce determination in Kirsten's eyes, Danielle felt a mix of admiration and heartbreak. She let out a soft sigh and rubbed Kirsten's back. "You are way too stubborn for your own good."
"Fine. If you want to stick it out, I won't stop you. But listen to me—if she tries to pull something like this again, you tell me. I will handle her."
"And if things get to be too much, don't just bottle it up. Talk to me. Talk to Alex. We've got your back."
Kirsten looked at Danielle, a warm tightness spreading in her chest. She nodded, her eyes growing a little misty. "I know. Thank you."
"Don't thank me, we're family."
Danielle smiled, reaching out to wipe a stray tear from Kirsten's eye. "Alright, enough of the heavy stuff. Get that coffee over to her before she finds another reason to write you up."
