And Jake and Harold were his chance to escape this predicament.
“Fine,” Vincent finally said. “As long as you can take down Alexander and completely derail his prized 07 fighter jet project, I will owe you a favor.”
“After that, anything within my authority will be on the table.”
Lorie stood to the side, listening to the conversation between her father and Harold, her heart wavering.
Take down Alexander?
The man she had once loved so deeply was now to become an enemy she had to eliminate?
Harold seemed to see through her hesitation. He turned his gaze on her, his tone persuasive and coaxing.
“Miss Gaylord, I know this is difficult. But letting emotions cloud your judgment won't solve anything.”
“He has shown you no mercy, so why should you show him any loyalty? Love isn't everything, especially when your family's survival and your own future are at stake. Sometimes, you have to make a choice and focus on the bigger picture.”
Lorie looked into Harold's eyes, which seemed to see right through her. She thought of Alexander’s coldness and cruelty, of the Gaylord family’s current crisis.
She clenched her fists so tightly her nails dug into her palms.
After a long moment, she looked up and nodded softly. “Alright. I agree.”

Meanwhile, Alexander had just finished his therapy session.
As he left Rebecca’s office, his eyes were bloodshot, and exhaustion was etched onto his face.
He leaned against his car door, rubbing his throbbing temples. It wasn't just company affairs that weighed on him. The image of Danielle's pale face and the child they had lost pressed down on his heart like a heavy stone.
“Mr. Davidson.”
A low, magnetic voice sounded nearby.
