The Wife They Tried to Replace Is Now Untouchable novel Chapter 329

Chapter 329

Who is it? What’s all the noise this early in the morning? Can’t a person get some sleep?!Jessica yanked the door open, staring directly into Brian st worried eyes.

Jessi, you okay?Brian asked.

I’m fine. Why wouldn’t I be?Jessica thought his question was completely random until she saw what dangled from his long fingers. It was a mouse tail

The poor thing looked like it had been killed instantly. Its gray fur was matted with blood.

Oh god-Jessica was already exhausted from a sleepless night, and now this disgusting sight hit her like a punch to the gut. She grabbed the doorframe and started dry heaving.

Brian panicked. He immediately dropped the dead mouse and reached out to pat her back.

Jessica was still retching but managed to stumble backward in disgust. Don’t touch me!

The thought of Brian’s hands on that mouse tait made her stomach lurch again.

Brian quickly stepped back.

Jessi, don’t worry about me. Go inside and peel an orange. I heard the smell helps with nausea,he said frantically.

Tears streamed down Jessica’s face as she gagged. Brian’s heart clenched at the sight.

Just as Brian decided to hell with everything and started moving toward her, Jessica turned and walked away.

Brian exhaled in relief and followed her inside.

While Jessica was sick, he quickly grabbed a broom and mop to clean up the mess outside. He bagged the dead mouse and left it by the door.

After everything was spotless, he scrubbed his hands with soap several times before finally bringing Jessica a cup of hot water.

Jessi, drink some water and rinse your mouth.Brian’s voice was gentle.

Jessica leaned against the sink, her face pale. She took the glass and gulped down a large mouthful, swished it around, then spit it out. She repeated this two or three times until the awful taste finally disappeared.

She handed the glass back. Brian was already offering her a warm, damp towel.

Jessica wiped her face, fully awake now.

Thank you.She draped the towel over the rack, her back to Brian.

Don’t mention it.Brian shook his head and left the bathroom without being asked, giving her space to collect herself.

His thoughtfulness lifted her spirits a little.

When she came out, Brian was on his phone, his voice sharp and angry. Get me the security footage from the building right now. I want to know who did this!

God knew how worried Brian had been this morning. He’d come to bring Jessica breakfast as usual, but when he reached her door, he found a giant dead

rat.

That’s why he’d lost his head and knocked on Jessica’s door without dealing with the rat first, making Jessica suffer through that awful scene.

The more Brian thought about it, the more guilty he felt. And the angrier he became at whoever had left that dead rat at Jessica’s door.

Chapter 329

When Jessica emerged, Brian quickly ended his call and turned to her. Jessi, don’t be scared. I’ll get to the bottom of this and catch promise.

He walked over to her, concern filling his voice. Do you have any idea who might’ve done this? Anyone you’ve upset recently

The dead rat wasn’t naturally placed right wh

attention when she left.

Jessica would see it when she opened her door. She might have stepped on it if she hadn’t been paying

Brian refused to believe this was just a coincidence.

Jessica looked up at him, their eyes meeting directly.

A sudden thought crossed her. What would Brian do if I told him I suspected Madeline? Would he actually go after her for my sake? The answer came quicklyprobably not. So why humiliate myself?

She lowered her eyes, her voice flat and emotionless. No, it’s probably just a coincidence. There’s no need to investigate.
