Chapter 315
Chapter 315
“What a darling girl. She called me ‘beautiful lady‘!” Stella recognized Wanda instantly and played along.
Jessica smiled too, thinking the girl had a knack for sweet–talking.
Stella crouched down. “Of course, we can help, but I’m no ‘beautiful lady‘. I’m too old for that.”
Wanda was quick with the flattery. “Hello, ma’am,” sh

Stella snorted with laughter, then turned to Jessica. “Jese up. I need to hit the restroom.”
She gave Wanda a gentle push toward Jessica.
“Sure,” Jessica nodded. “Meet us at security when you’re done.”
She’d been walking awhile and welcomed the chance to sit.
Stella waved them off, and Jessica started back with Wanda.
The girl piped up eagerly, “Beautiful lady, I’m Wanda. You seem so warm. Can we exchange numbers?”
She looked up at Jessica with starry eyes.
Taking a shine to the adorable kid, Jessica didn’t hesitate. She pulled out her phone and swapped contacts.
“I work long hours, though, I might not reply right away,” she said gently.
Wanda was understanding. “That’s totally fine. I’m just thrilled you said yes. You must be really kind, beautiful lady.”
Jessica laughed, “We just met. How do you know I’m kind? And call me Ms. Grànt, not ‘beautiful lady“.”
Wanda nodded earnestly. “Okay.” Then she added, “You are kind. You walked me to security and gave me your number without even thinking.”
Jessica smiled, “You’re quite the persuader. What grade are you in?“,
“I just graduated from kindergarten. And I’m not just saying that. It’s the honest truth.”
Wanda suddenly reached out and clasped Jessica’s hand. “Ms. Grant, you’re truly kind, I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks so. Anyone paying attention can tell.”
She thought, ‘Jake certainly did.‘
Jessica froze. She felt there was more to the girl’s words, but dismissed it as her own imagination.
She wondered, ‘What could a little kid understand?‘
“Stop being so jumpy,” she chided herself, shaking her head to clear her thoughts.
But Wanda wouldn’t let it ga. “Ms. Grant, are you stressed about something? You keep nodding and shaking your head.”
Jessica’s eyes dropped. “Was I?”
‘Was I that obvious?‘ she wondered.
Wanda’s voice turned soft and sad. “My mom used to be like that. She’d chicken out of doing what she really wanted, make up excuses, and end up miserable. Don’t be like that, Ms. Grant, if you want something, just go for it.”

Caught off guard by the child’s insight, Jessica had no reply.
Before she could respond, they reached the security booth.
As they entered, they nearly collided with a young man who was

“Ms. Grant helped me out. I’m sticking with her to say thank you.”
The assistant immediately turned to Jessica, all gratitude. “Ms. Grant, thank you so much. Here’s Mr. Manning’s card. I’ll make sure he hears all about your kindness.”
He handed her a sleek, professional–looking card.
Jessica took the card and recognized the name as the CEO of a well–known firm. But interacted before.

“Don’t worry about it. It was no big deal,” Jessica said offhandedly, then went to sit down and rest.
In no time, Wanda skipped over. “Ms. Grant, would you like something to drink? I made this hot cocoa myself. It’s super delicious.”
Not wanting to reject the little girl’s kindness, Jessica accepted the cup and took a sip.
To her surprise, it tasted amazing, just the way she liked it, so she took another couple of sips.
Wanda hid her hand behind her back and quietly did a little victory gesture.
Jacob, who was lurking outside the door, beamed when he saw Wanda’s signal.
Jessica spent quite a while chatting with Wanda at the security booth before Stella rushed over, looking flustered.
“Mom, is your stomach feeling okay now?” Jessica asked, noticing the sweat on Stella’s forehead.
Stella, who had just settled Jacob in a shaded area, nodded vigorously. “All better. Let’s keep going, Jessi.”
Then she pretended to be surprised when she saw Wanda. “Oh/Wanda’s here. Would you like to join us for the rest of the tour?”
“Sounds great. Liam, you can wait here,” Wanda agreed readily, turning to the assistant,
Liam couldn’t possibly let her wander off alone and immediately said he was coming too.
Wanda let out a sigh, fixing Jessica with a world–weary look. “Ms. Grant, can you believe this? My parents couldn’t care less about me, but they still send people to shadow me 24/7.”
“Don’t be so hard on them,” Jessica said, smoothing the girl’s hair. “They’re probably just swamped at work. I’m sure they don’t mean to neglect you. Wanda shook her head stubbornly. “No way. They didn’t want me at all when they divorced. They were fighting over who’d have to ditch me.
Jessica stared, caught off guard by the raw truth.
She took a moment to gather herself. “None of that is your fault, okay?”
Puffing out her chest, Wanda spoke with surprising conviction. “Obviously. I was just a kid. How could I stop them? They split up because they couldn. stand each other. And them not wanting me? I get it.

Chapter 315
“Everyone’s got the right to live their own life. You’re a parent, but it doesn’t mean you owe your whole world to your kid.”
Jessica felt her breath catch. She never expected such wisdom from a six–year–old.
Somehow, Jake’s face flashed in her mind. She crouched down, searching Wanda’s eyes. “Do you really feel that way?”
If a child like Wanda could grasp this, maybe Jake could finally understand why left,’ she wondered.
Wanda nodded hard. “Totally. Any kid with sense would think the same. So don’t beat yourself up, Ms. Grant.”
