“Really?” Jacob’s head shot up.

“Absolutely.” Brian strode over, answering for Wanda.

“Dad!” Jacob couldn’t contain himself and leaped into his arms, eyes flicking past to check behind him. “Mom…”

“Don’t worry. I’ll take you to see her soon, okay?” Brian soothed, rubbing Jacob’s head gently.

“Okay.” Jacob swiped at his eyes hard, shouting the word.

He kept telling himself, “It’s fine. Mom’s just still angry. If I try hard to make amends and show her I truly regret it, she’ll forgive me for sure.”

Cheering himself up, Jacob released his dad and ran back to Wanda, holding up his smartwatch.

He said, “Wanda, can we swap contacts? We can hang out again after you leave the hospital.”

“Sure thing. Don’t be sad. Your mom will forgive you eventually. Don’t be scared,” Wanda said, wrapping him in a hug.

Jacob hugged back, nodding firmly. “Hmm, not scared.”

He thought to himself, ‘Wanda’s younger than me, left alone in the hospital by both her parents, and she isn’t afraid. Since I’m older than her and have Dad, how can I show weakness?‘

After the two kids hugged and saved each other’s numbers, Jacob waved goodbye to Wanda reluctantly.

Brian automatically took the luggage from Stella’s hand.

With nothing else to do, Stella pulled out her phone to snap photos of Jacob.

“Are these for Mom?” Jacob asked immediately, striking a pose.

“Yep. Look at the camera, Jake. I’ll take these pics to your mom as soon as I drop you off.” Stella nodded, clicking away to take a bunch of shots of her grandson.

Brian saw this and asked Stella to send him the photos.

That afternoon, Brian arrived at Jessica’s place with fresh snacks he’d queued for on his way home, along with the pictures from Stella.

“Why are you still pestering Jessi?” Sana, who happened to be visiting Jessica, scowled the moment she saw Brian.

She thought, ‘This guy’s like a bad smell that won’t go away.’

“Ms. Gardner, I don’t remember doing anything to offend you recently.” Brian gave her an innocent look.

He really couldn’t figure out why Jessica and everyone around her had been brushing him off lately.

“Whether you did or not, you know full well,” Sana huffed, ready to slam the door shut.

Jessica turned her head away, not meeting her gaze, and said sullenly, “Let’s keep them. It’s not good to waste food.”

“Is it really just because you don’t want to waste food?” Sana looked at her suspiciously.

Jessica pretended to be relaxed. “Of course. What else do you think it could be?”

Sana saw through her pretense and felt a surge of pity. She wanted to expose the truth, but considering Jessica’s emotional issues, she held back in the

“Nothing. Since you say so, let’s keep them,” she said, handing the snack bag to Jessica before walking into the kitchen.
