Chapter 159
Wesley didn’t use overly technical terms, but from their conversation, he learned that during their seven–year marriage, Jessica only felt truly happy during the first two years.
The rest of the time, especially after a certain woman entered the picture between her and Brian, even Jacob had started to drift away from her and complain. That was the final straw that broke Jessica.
Jessica remained silent. Wesley spoke gently, “Would it be alright if I called you Jessi?”
He knew that building rapport with patients was crucial. The more they trusted him in a short time, the smoother the treatment process would be, and the higher the chances of success.
Jessica nodded slightly.
“Depression can be considered an illness, but it doesn’t have to be,” Wesley said, observing Jessica’s expression. “Don’t put pressure on yourself. Let out the emotions buried inside. With time, they’ll heal naturally.”
During their first session, he didn’t probe too deeply. He wasn’t sure whether Brian’s affair was emotional or physical. But the damage to Jessica was undeniable. But the damage to Jessica was undeniable.
Jessica forced a smile, indicating she’d been through the wringer and could handle it.
They exchanged a few more pleasantries and scheduled their next appointment. Wesley flipped through his calendar and said, “Let’s meet next Thursday afternoon, then.”
‘Next Thursday? Jessica frowned slightly. It was the day before her court date with Brian.
But clearly Wesley was highly sought after, with appointments already booked through next week.
Jessica didn’t think she deserved special treatment. She’d have to work around the doctor’s schedule.
When Jessica left the building, it was already past four in the afternoon.
Jessica let out a long breath. Having someone to confide in made her feel so much lighter. Her stomach growled loudly in response.
“I’m starving,” she muttered to herself.
She glanced around at the nearby shops. Coffee places dominate the area, along with several 24–hour convenience stores.
Sure enough, Jacob continued, “I want to buy some lemon scones for Mom. Being pregnant is really hard on her, and she can’t keep much food down
Madeline’s perfectly made–up face twisted with rage. Her eyes turned dark and frightening. “Jake, you’re so thoughtful, caring about Jessi like that, she said through gritted teeth.
Though jealous of Jacob’s concern for Jessica, Madeline had no choice but to agree since he’d asked for her help.
After hanging up, Madeline called Samantha first to request leave. “Ms. Zane, sorry to trouble you. I’d like to request an hour off for Jake so he can leave school an hour early.”
Samantha was stunned when she received the call. She thought to herself, ‘No way. Has the mistress really moved in and kicked Jacob’s mother out?”
She’d seen plenty of situations like this before, so she maintained a respectful tone with Madeline on the surface.
Madeline could sense the change in Samantha’s tone and felt secretly pleased. ‘Good. Let everyone think I had a special relationship with Brian.
