Jessica forced her polite smile, silently questioning herself, “This doctor Sana recommended… is he even reliable?”

Wesley paused mid–sip from his wine glass, apparently caught off guard by Jessica’s pregnancy.

Jessica had come straight from the office, dressed in a sharp business suit that screamed corporate powerhouse. Career–driven city women like her rarely got pregnant during their prime working years.

Wesley poured himself some red wine and filled a simple glass of water for Jessica.

His tall, lean frame was draped in a white coat that gave him a gentle demeanor. His gold–rimmed glasses added a scholarly touch, toning down what would otherwise be striking good looks.

“Ms. Grant, what did you have for lunch?” Wesley asked casually, already building a mental profile of Jessica. He studied her discreetly, taking in her fair complexion and delicate features. Her clothes and shoes were all designer brands.

She came from a reputable family, yet her eyes held a hint of sadness. Wesley wondered if it was relationship troubles.

Wesley’s observation was so subtle that Jessica didn’t feel violated.

Jessica felt slightly impatient. She didn’t have time for small talk, but she replied politely, “Home–cooked meals from my family.” She leaned forward slightly, ready to make her excuses and leave.

Wesley noticed every micro–movement. Jessica’s guard was up high.

Most people were naturally defensive around strangers. But this was

“Does Ms. Grant like cats?” Wesley asked abruptly, just as Jessica was looking for an excuse to leave. His sudden return to the topic of cats caught her off

guard.

“I do like them, actually. It’s just that…” Jessica trailed off. She loved both cats and dogs. Growing up, her family had a tabby cat and a golden retriever. After the tabby ran away when she was five, she never got another cat.

“Her name is Tres. Would you like to hold her?” Wesley moved closer with the cat. “She’s had all her vaccinations and deworming treatments.”

Jessica snapped back to the present and instinctively reached for the Ragdoll.
