The Villainess Needs a Hug (Ivy Windsor) novel Chapter 1004

Acutely aware of her engagement, Katrina instinctively tilted her head, dodging his touch.

Naylor's hand froze in midair, his expression stalling along with it.

Katrina's chest ached. She didn't even dare to look at his face, but she had her principles—since she could no longer turn back or get back together with him, she had to endure the pain and draw a clear line between them.

Even if she didn't love Julian, she was getting married now, which meant she had to be responsible to her partner and loyal to her marriage.

Under the glow of the streetlights, after a brief silence between them, Katrina finally managed to steady her emotions. She looked up at him. "What is it? Just say it. You're blocking the road with your car; someone's going to complain in a minute."

Naylor took a slight breath, the heavy scent of alcohol rolling off him as he exhaled.

Katrina frowned. Thinking he might be drinking to drown his sorrows made the ache in her heart even more agonizing.

"Did my mom come see you today?" he asked in a low voice.

Katrina figured his visit might be related to that, so she explained, "I happened to bump into her while eating. She was just checking in on me. We chatted briefly."

Naylor replied, "My mom really likes you..."

Katrina balled her hands into slight fists, suppressing the painful clench in her chest, and said nothing.

What did it matter if she liked her?

She really liked Professor Penn too, but they just weren't meant to be family.

"My mom said you guys were on a date. So, are you trying to build a connection with him?" Naylor pressed when she remained silent.

Truthfully, he knew he had no right to ask, but he couldn't help himself.

He also knew perfectly well that asking would only bring him more misery, yet he still couldn't hold back.

Before the breakup, he never realized he loved Katrina far beyond his own comprehension.

He had thought this breakup would be no different from all the others, assuming he'd recover in a week or two at most.

But that wasn't the case at all.

After getting dumped, he completely lost his appetite and interest in everything. Sometimes, whenever something happened, his first instinct was to share it with her. But the moment he pulled out his phone and remembered they had broken up, the crushing reality hit him like a bolt of lightning.

He couldn't understand it. What kind of spell had this woman cast on him?

Was it just because he was her first?

Or was it because she had dumped him and was turning right around to marry someone else?

Either way, he couldn't let it go. It had practically become an obsession.

At that moment, Katrina looked at his stubborn expression and, after a beat of silence, deliberately provoked him. "Shouldn't I? He's my fiancé, and our wedding is next week."
