"None of you did anything wrong," Benjamin said icily, "but I want to know your stand. If you kill her, you don't have any worry. I'll know you're someone who can do something big.
"If you can't do it, it means that you aren't suited to take over my position because your sentiments will get in the way sooner or later. They'll make you an indecisive coward!"
"But I…" Mateo held the shiny knife and bent forward. He looked at Benjamin and Amber, then hung his head in defeat. "I can't do that."
"What can't you do?" Benjamin narrowed his eyes and looked at the collapsed Mateo coldly.
"I can't kill Gem…" Mateo staggered and sobbed. "I grew up with her. She's kind and delicate. I'd long sworn to protect her my whole life. I can't watch her get hurt! But now, you're asking me to kill her. I can't do it… I'd rather kill myself!"
"Hmph! You can't even do that. If someone catches her and threatens you to betray me one day, you'll do that without hesitation. So, my worry is logical," Benjamin snapped, his face cold and impassive.
"Are you okay, Amber?" Liam hugged Amber, who almost fainted from the torture. His eyes were teary as he yelled at Benjamin, "She blacked out because you tortured her! Are you satisfied now?"
Benjamin walked to Amber and Liam, staring at them condescendingly and emotionlessly, as if they were nothing but garbage.
"She can't even handle a bit of pain. She can't be my daughter."
"No, I raised you. You can do it. Your greed toward power is greater than your romantic feelings…" Benjamin acted like a god who could easily decide others' fate. "Kill her, then you've passed the test. I won't have any worry. Face your true self. Don't be bound by the so-called justice and moral standards. You can't survive here if those things are binding you."
"Please don't force my hand…" Mateo shook his head and cried. He kept retreating as if he could not bring himself to do that.
When everyone thought that Mateo couldn't do that, he suddenly raised the knife. His eyes shone fiercely as he tried to stab Amber's heart.
"I'm sorry, Gem. I have no choice!"
