The Shadow Alpha novel Chapter 25

“You are mine! No other male may touch you, do you understand that?!” he emphasized, making me angry once again, I hate being ordered around, mate or not.

“No, I do not! I am not yours, nor anything to you. You rejected me, so face your consequences and stop acting like an entitled mate!” I yelled back feeling more hurt than ever, my words were like a knife to my own heart.

I allowed him in; I allowed him the power to hurt me once again!

My anger diminished slightly and was replaced with a wave of self-loathing.

“Do you think I wanted this? Do you think I wanted to reject you, to hurt you and make you hate me? Since the first moment I laid eyes on you as a baby, it became my life’s mission to make you smile. It wasn’t my choice, but I loathe myself for breaking your heart regardless.” he yelled back with hurt and anger laced in his voice which halted my anger and annoyance momentarily.

“I don’t know what to think.” I whispered truthfully, the entire situation was confusing and the abrupt mood changes were giving me emotional whiplash.

Devin’s shoulders sagged, “I didn’t Allison. I never wanted to hurt you, but I didn’t have any other choice. It was for your own good, I know you don’t believe me, because it makes no sense, but it’s the truth. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t wish I could go back and change my actions.” he said in a broken voice, that’s when I knew it was true.

My dream was a vision of his dream. The next thing I knew my arms were wrapped around his neck and my face buried in his shoulder. His body tensed as he processed the unexpected action, but before I could recoil in shame his arms found their way around my waist and his breath fanned my exposed neck as he kept muttering,

“I’m sorry.”

“I believe you Devin. Thank you.” I felt his confusion as he broke the hug.

“You do?” he inquired, slightly stunned, but mostly uncertain.

“Yeah, one day I’ll explain it all to you.” he nodded slowly in acceptance.

“Why are you thanking me?” he asked with a raised eyebrow which evoked a nostalgic smile from me.

“If you never rejected me, I would never have found a reason to leave; I would never have found my true home.” He nodded in understanding and tried to hide the hurt look in his eyes, but it was futile.

Devin placed his right hand on my cheek

“Please don’t hate me.” he muttered before he uttered the words I secretly longed to hear since the day I first learnt about mates,

“I Devin Summers, Alpha of the Full Moon pack accept you Allison Trust Wells to be my mate and Luna.” A sighed escaped my lips as the bond was restored, the sparks that had been merely a dim buzz before, erupted through my body wherever our skin touched, his breath mixed with mine as a huge smile appeared on his face and his eyes twinkled delightfully.

We stood there staring at one another, savouring the feeling of being complete in each other’s presence.

“Why did you do that?” I wanted to be angry that once again he blindsided me with his words, but the connection was too strong, the happiness was intoxicating and I felt powerless against the bond.

He stiffened when his gaze landed on the blood stains caused by our fight. An unexpected whimper escaped his lips as he lifted the shirt to reveal the almost healed claw marks.

Suddenly all the pain from being tossed around began to surface, I could feel the wounds on my back healing around the dirt, I needed to get cleaned up before it caused more harm than good.

“We should head back.” My soft voice pulled him from his staring at my stomach with regret written all over his face.

He pulled away and stepped into the elevator leaving me breathless and flushed.

Damn emotional whiplash

I said more to myself than Shadow, but her delight and amusement was pretty obvious.

A chuckle came from behind me successfully breaking the trance I was stuck in. I whipped my head around to face Oliver who had a smug smile on his face, “You look a little flustered Alpha.” He smirked devilishly which I returned with a fierce glare.

I motioned for him to follow me as I stepped into my office; we both took our seats facing each other.

Without allowing him an opportunity to tease me anymore I jumped right into it, “What do you plan on doing after you find your sisters, Oliver?” a pensive look formed on his face, a few seconds later he looked at me with a sad smile.

“To be completely honest, I haven’t ever thought that far. It’s always been about finding them; I never really put any thought into what we would do if I did find them. I mean I do have a house back in England, but it’s never been much of a home.” I stared at the despondent look in his eyes which admittedly made me feel upset.

“You know you’re welcome to stay.” His head shot up to look at me, visibly taken aback. “I mean I know it isn’t home, but we’d love to have you all join the Blue Moon pack. If you want that is.” I added quickly. Somehow I could relate to what he was feeling, on one hand he had support of his team, but at the same time he felt responsible for them which made it all the more difficult.

“I- I don’t know what to say Allie, that’s really amazing of you.” I smiled warmly at him, “I would have to speak to the rest of my team first, though?” I nodded in agreement.

“That’s okay, now I really need a shower. Let them all know that dinner is at six and I expect to see everyone in the dining hall.” He nodded and disappeared through the door.
