Zara lowered her head, not wanting Felix to notice her disappointment. She replied, "Yes, I understand. It won't happen again."
When they reached the entrance of Mourning Village, the eerie atmosphere hit them both. Felix felt a shiver creep down his spine as he stared at the darkened village ahead. It loomed like the gaping maw of a monstrous beast, swallowing anyone who dared step inside and leaving no hope of return.
Even standing outside, the oppressive darkness was suffocating. Felix could only imagine how it would feel to walk into the heart of it.
"Felix, let's put on the protective items," Zara urged.
They quickly covered themselves with the various charms purchased from Sixview Peak. Felix was unsure if he was doing it to humor Zara or to settle his unease, but he did not mind the slight comfort it brought.
Even as a powerful martial artist, Felix understood that the human fear of ghosts and the unknown could not simply be dismissed with brave words. With everything in place, they finally stepped into the village.
A cold wind immediately swept past them, causing Zara to grab Felix's arm in fright.
"It's just wind," Felix assured her, taking deep breaths himself—he needed to stay strong for her sake.
"Help... me..." a distant voice echoed through the darkness.
Felix's hair stood on end, realizing the village truly was eerie. More disturbing was that even his advanced abilities could not pinpoint the source of the voice.
However, as he moved to investigate, Zara held his arm tightly. She sobbed, "No! Please, let's leave! I'll tell Mr. Grayson I'm never coming back. I really can't handle this anymore."
Despite her medical training and martial arts skills, she was still a young woman whose body and mind naturally reacted to such terror.
"Sorry about this, but we're getting this over with tonight," Felix said firmly. Before Zara could protest, Felix scooped her up in a princess carry and bolted toward the dark figure.
Then, something even more disturbing happened. A second figure appeared with the same glowing red eyes as the dark figure, hovering above the dark figure. It said, "You're... going to regret this..."
