The anxious and hesitant Belle couldn’t help but take the risk and ask, “Milady, w–why has Mr. Holt Senior suddenly come to the Phoenix Legion base?” 

“He’s here to see Colonel Bradley Sutton. It turns out that Bradley’s grandfather was Mr. Holt Senior’s comrade–in–arms. I just found out about this as well.” 

Belle instantly felt a great sense of relief, like the weight on her shoulders had suddenly been lifted. 

She had been terrified moments ago, thinking Ernest came specifically because of Felix, which would have caused a major problem. 

Not long after, a car slowly pulled up, and Ernest stepped out with his bodyguard, Jairo Acosta. 

Not only did Xena and Belle rush forward to greet Ernest, but a sharp–eyed middle–aged man also approached. 

That man was none other than Bradley Sutton, a highly influential figure and a colonel in the Phoenix Legion. 

“Mr. Holt Senior!” 

Seeing Bradley’s salute, Ernest said with a smile, “I’m retired now. No need for salutes.” 

Bradley’s eyes were filled with a look of admiration. Since childhood, he had heard his grandfather tell countless stories of Ernest’s legendary exploits. Ernest was undoubtedly his greatest hero. 

“Brad, how are things in the Phoenix Legion?” 

Bradley walked beside Ernest, looking a bit nervous. 

“Things are going well, Mr. Holt Senior. Lady Summers is a great leader. Everyone in the Phoenix Legion respects her deeply.” 

Bradley wasn’t trying to flatter anyone; he was just stating facts. With his current rank, there was no need to butter up 

Xena. 

If she had made any mistakes, he would have been the first to call them out. This wasn’t a bureaucratic world; things were more straightforward in the Phoenix Legion. 

“Oh, it seems Xena is quite capable,” 

Xena quickly gave a modest smile. “You’re too kind, Mr. Holt Senior.” 

However, in the next moment, Ernest changed the subject. 

“The Phoenix Legion must be busy these days, right? Besides your regular defense

assignments, you’re also handling street fights and trespassing incidents? Do you have enough personnel? If not, make sure to request more from the higher–ups.” 

The previously relaxed atmosphere became tense in an instant. Even Xena seemed confused, unsure of what Ernest meant by that. 

Only Belle’s heart raced as if she had understood what he meant, though she wondered if she was just overthinking things. 

“Mr. Holt Senior, you must be joking. Street fights and trespassing are handled by the police. If we had to take care of those things as well, even tripling our manpower wouldn’t be enough,” Bradley quipped with a laugh. 

Since Bradley and Ernest had a special relationship, it allowed the former to say things even Xena wouldfi’t dare. 

“Is that so? Maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me then. Jairo, I must have seen it wrong earlier, right?” 

Jairo replied earnestly, “You did not see wrong, Mr. Holt Senior. I was there too and saw the Phoenix Legion apprehending someone for trespassing.” 

What? 

Bradley and Xena froze in their tracks. They finally realized that Ernest’s visit to see Bradley was just an excuse and that his real purpose was contained in what he had said. 

“Mr. Holt Senior, please wait a moment. I’ll have someone look into this immediately. The most likely scenario is that they happened upon the incident on their way back from a mission. 

“Otherwise, there’s no way we’d specifically handle a trespassing case.” 

But to everyone’s surprise, Ernest raised his right hand and calmly said, “There’s no need for that. I’m not giving orders here. I’m just a little curious about something. 

“The Phoenix Legion did apprehend someone, but it wasn’t the trespassing thugs–it was the homeowner. Has some new law been passed that I, an old man, don’t know about?” 

If things were a bit unsettling before, then the atmosphere now was so chilling it made one’s skin crawl.
