Nellie quickly covered her mouth. If it weren't for Felix's reminder, she might have screamed out loud.
However, she soon regained her composure and demanded, "Evidence!"
After all, this was a person who had been dead for over three months. Since he had reappeared via a phone call instead of in person, Nellie had every reason to be skeptical. After all, Felix had entered Echo Cavern, one of the Three Forbidden Lands—surviving that was almost impossible.
Felix had anticipated this reaction, so he gave his answer without hesitation. "Back when I first arrived, Nellie, you tried to... do something to me. Does that count as evidence?"
How could Nellie not believe him? That kind of thing was something only the two of them knew. No one else could possibly be aware of it.
Suppressing the wave of emotions inside her, Nellie said urgently, "Then hurry back!"
Even though she had a million questions, she knew this wasn't the time to ask.
"Nellie, I know Madam Goddard is worried about me," Felix said. "But since I have this chance, I want to take care of something very important to me. Please pass this message along for me—I promise I won't be in danger again, and once it's done, I'll go to her right away.
"So, I ask for your help to keep this a secret. Don't tell anyone except Madam Goddard."
Felix's goal was to head to Ghosttown. According to the Shepherd Ghost, the Skeletal Demon would appear there during every full moon.
After learning the date from the middle-aged man, Felix realized the full moon was in three days. Missing it would mean waiting a long time, and being "dead" now made his movements much easier. There was no need to worry about enemies tracking him.
"Alright, I can tell you've made up your mind. I don't have the right to stop you. Just be careful. Madam Goddard's health is worsening by the day.
"Ever since you entered Echo Cavern, she's been bedridden. It's a heartache that no medicine can cure. But the news of you being alive will surely help her start recovering.
"You lent me your phone, which helped me. And you're a smart man," Felix said.
With a wave of his hand, the three charging Pulse Realm warriors fell to the ground, and their heads tilted at unnatural angles. They were as dead as could be.
By the time the middle-aged man snapped out of it, Felix was already gone. In a panic, he grabbed the emerald cards from the three dead men and ran off.
He wouldn't dare breathe a word of what had happened that day. Even if he did, no one would believe him, so why bother?
…
At North City Harmony Clinic, Nellie carried a large tray of fragrant dishes into a room. The spread was lavish. Deborah lay still on the bed, her eyes dull and lifeless. The only reason she remained in North City was her longing for Felix.
