Yelena narrowed her eyes—so Jessica had pursued Zane.
She found the situation ironic. If Jessica was interested in Zane, would she really help her?
She wasn't sure, but she made a mental note to stay cautious.
…
Zachary returned home to find Steven waiting at the door. He barely spared him a glance before stepping inside.
Steven followed close behind. Zachary reached for the door, intending to shut it, but Steven wedged a hand in the gap. "We need to talk."
"About what? Last time we met, you hit me. What is it this time?" Zachary hissed.
He doubted Steven was here for anything good.
Steven was gullible, always believing whatever people told him. Chances were, someone had fed him more nonsense, and now he was here to make trouble again.
"It's about your mother."
Zachary looked at him with disdain. He couldn't believe Steven had the audacity to bring her up.
After all, he was the one who had driven her away for Jessica.
Zachary's expression turned even colder. "What's there to talk about?"
Everything that needed to be said had been said long ago.
Zachary looked sorrowful as he recalled the past. If Jessica hadn't told him to call Annalise over that day—if that hadn't caused her miscarriage—maybe she would have been willing to give him another chance.
After all, Annalise had always loved him. Even after all the ways he had hurt her, she had never once thought of abandoning him.
Zachary felt saddened, and his resentment toward Steven deepened.
Steven was at a loss for words.
Zachary knew he was just a child and that there was no way he could stop Steven, so he didn't bother arguing any further.
Without another word, he turned and headed straight for his bedroom.
