She then turned around to find Eric standing at the doorway.

For the first time in ages, he’d slept soundly.

The door had been slightly ajar.

He pushed it gently and saw her working intently.

“Did you solve your issue?” he asked.

He hadn’t checked his phone yet, but just from Alice’s demeanor, she clearly had.

Alice got up and walked over.

“Well, Mr. Eric, I see you’re all relaxed now. Is that why you’re suddenly interested in my business?”

“Not necessarily.”

“Is that so?”

Eric’s gaze dropped to her slightly flushed cheeks, probably from the warmth of the room.

His throat tightened involuntarily.

He turned away, but his voice was soft.

“I mean–busy or not, I care about you either way.”

“Mr. Eric?”

“Did you enroll in a communication skills crash course or something?”

Eric looked confused.

Alice chuckled at her own joke.

Eric didn’t say anything while Alice checked the time.

“It’s still early. Let’s go to the old mansion.”

It was just past 8 p.m.–still early by her standards.

The people living in the old mansion would’ve finished dinner by now. Eric knew immediately that she was planning to stir up trouble again.
