Alice smiled.

“So just because the patient’s in bad shape, we should ignore her?”

Jack was taken aback.

He was a doctor too, yet here he was saying something that awful.

Alice opened the door and saw the room was pitch black, making her frown.

Emily’s situation might be worse than she thought.

Clayton stretched lazily.

“I didn’t realize experiments were this exhausting. This project is really draining me.”

Emma shrugged.

“It can’t be helped. That’s academia for you.”

But then she thought of something and said quietly, “Your achievements abroad are already on par with some professors here. If you want, you could become an associate professor soon.

“After a while, you’d become a full–fledged professor.”

“If you made some major breakthrough later, you could even become a member of the academy.”

“That’s a really promising path ahead.”

“Why live like a hermit?”

Clayton laughed heartily, saying casually, “Maybe I had it too easy when I was young. Now it’s time to pay my dues.”

Emma said nothing further.

But she really admired Clayton.

After all, even if he didn’t try, he could live comfortably off his parents forever.
