Kara seemed to have not learned her lesson as she came to provoke him yet again. Nolan's eyes narrowed as he looked at Kara, his voice dripping with disdain as he asked, "Did the slap not hurt enough?"
As soon as Nolan's words hit her, Kara's face flushed with anger, and she quickly covered it with her hands.
"You…you bastard!"
With a sigh, Nolan turned to Audrey and said, "Audrey, there's not much left to say. If you don't want to lose our friendship, you should go and take some time to calm down. Due to your kindness toward me, I will no longer hold it against you."
With red eyes and a trembling voice, Audrey turned to Nolan and asked, "Just... just friends?"
Nolan gave a small nod and replied, "Just friends. You don't have to be upset because, to be honest, I never considered anything more with you. Maybe there was a slight chance, but a chance is just a possibility."
Audrey took a deep breath and nodded before saying, "Okay. I understand."
With a slight bow, Audrey apologized to Nolan, saying, "I apologize for any trouble I may have caused. Rest assured it won't happen again."
Soon after, Audrey turned to Jennifer and spoke with a strained voice, "I apologize for frightening you as well."
Jennifer made a swift gesture with her hand, fear of saying too much.
"Dad, Kara, let's not make a spectacle of ourselves here. Let's go back."
How could George have the guts to say no? He hurried back to his seat, feeling defeated and no longer holding onto the hope of Nolan becoming his son-in-law. All he wanted now was for Nolan to not cause any more trouble for him, and that alone would be a blessing.
Shaun not only attempted to take control, but he also had thoughts of murdering his own father. It was a despicable and vile act. Maybe only Archie could comprehend the depth of this anguish, others would be unable to understand.
Lincoln's face was filled with guilt as he turned to Nolan and said, "Mr. Greene, I apologize. If I hadn't believed Shaun's lies, things would never have escalated to this extent.
"It was my fault. I promise to make it right for you and Mr. Archie. You and Mr. Archie do not have to worry.
"I also to thank you. If it weren't for your advice just now, guiding me out of confusion and saving me, I'm afraid that even if I died now, it would be hard to atone for my sins. Thank you."
Nolan graciously accepted Lincoln's gratitude and apologies without any guilt. He knew that without his help, Lincoln would most likely be suffering in pain for the rest of his life, even if he were still alive today.
