The price of betrayal (Jack and Ashley) novel Chapter 340

Jennifer was totally lost. She had just checked her bank account and 20 million dollars were staring back at her.

And that was only the beginning—another 90 million dollars was set to hit her account in a week.

Jennifer didn't know what it was like to come into a fortune out of nowhere, but the fear and anxiety she felt far outweighed any sense of surprise.

Just as Jennifer was battling her nerves, Audrey walked up to her. "Hi. I'm Audrey Weiss."

"Hey there," Jennifer answered hastily.

Jennifer saw herself as the least important person in this hotel, and everyone at tonight's banquet was someone she couldn't afford to tick off.

One of them was Audrey, who dressed so elegantly and looked every bit the part of a rich heiress.

"So you're Jennifer, right? Since you've been here the whole time, you've probably seen that the Crystal of Devotion you have was taken from me. I was hoping you could give it back. Would that be okay?"

From the second Audrey spoke to Jennifer, everyone turned their focus to them. Nobody thought Audrey would be so blunt about asking for it back.

Of course, Audrey was just speaking the truth. The Crystal of Devotion was taken from her and given back to Nolan. But to return it and then ask for it back—wasn't that a little embarrassing?

He shot a cold look at Audrey. "Audrey, what's this about? You didn't want it when you thought it was fake, but now that you know it's real, you want it back?"

The coldness in Nolan's gaze made Audrey feel like her heart was being ripped out. What hurt the most was that Nolan misunderstood her, thinking she'd try to make things hard for Jennifer. That really broke Audrey's heart.

"Nolan, I don't mean to stir things up. I just want what's mine back. I know you're angry, but I swear I did it for your own good. Please don't treat me this way, alright? Don't give away the gift you gave me."

Audrey's voice cracked as she continued, "It doesn't matter to me if it's real or fake. I just want the gift you gave me. It doesn't matter if it's the Crystal of Devotion or not. What matters is that it's Audrey's Devotion. You named it and gave it to me, remember?"

Had Nolan forgotten?
