Smitty let out a wry laugh. While Nolan could speak like this, he dared not.
With a smile, Nolan asked, "Alright. Just say it. What's this about?"
Smitty quickly answered, "It's Mr. Baxter—Mr. Shaun. He called just now, asking us to escort you to Kara's birthday banquet and to make sure you don't slip away. Heh. I didn't dare to hide anything from you, so I came to report it right away."
Nolan looked at Smitty and grinned. "Is this considered a tip-off from a double agent?"
The words made Smitty's face instantly turn red. Being a double agent was not a commendable reputation. But come to think of it, it did indeed seem that way.
Smitty smiled bitterly, saying, "Mr. Greene, you're all important people, while we're just insignificant ants. When gods battle, the mortals suffer. We truly don't want to offend you.
"Moreover, with the upheaval in the Baxter family, everyone can see the connection between Lincoln and Mr. Archie. Lincoln may have been a little hot-headed and temporarily convinced by Mr. Shaun, but he'll come to his senses eventually.
"When that day comes, it'll be a whole new story, and we don't want to make things worse. This is the sad truth for small frys like us, Mr. Green. You might not understand, but we hope that as a superior, you won't hold it against us. We'd be truly grateful."
His words were genuine and honest.
People like Smitty and his men could not intervene in the Baxter family's internal struggle. And having witnessed Nolan's power, they understood that he was not a man to be trifled with.
In a situation like this, attempting to boss Nolan around would be asking for disaster.
Nolan patted Smitty's shoulder and said indifferently, "Don't worry. I won't make things difficult for you. Of course, if we do end up as enemies, then… Well, we'll have to look out for ourselves."
Nolan fell silent for a moment, then sighed. "Archie is a good man. It's partly because of me that he's in this mess now, so I should help him out of this. Give me his exact location."
Smitty dared not hide anything and immediately gave Nolan the full address.
After that, he gulped nervously and asked, "Mr. Greene, are you going to bring in Sirius to handle this? If so, could you please ask him to be gentle with our people?
"Being in this position isn't what they want either. If Mr. Archie and Lincoln manage to reconcile and fix things, that would be the outcome we all hope for."
Nolan looked at Smitty and remarked, "You seem to be a bit afraid of Sirius."
