Megan merely smiled in response. Was it even still possible for her to reconcile with Audrey?
Meanwhile, Audrey broke down as soon as she left and got into her car. She not only had to leave Nolan, she had to hurt him. Yet, she had no other choice. It was the only way she could save him. There was nothing else she could do.
At that moment, she received a call from Shaun. She held back her sobs and answered coldly, "Mr. Baxter, I'm already doing what you asked. What more do you want?"
Shaun chuckled in response. "Audrey, I don't think this is how you should be speaking to your boyfriend."
Boyfriend? Of course, strictly speaking, leaving Nolan was merely the first step. The next step would be getting together with Shaun. The thought made Audrey feel miserable. She didn't like Shaun in the slightest.
"Mr. Baxter, I agreed on the condition that you'd protect Nolan. Right now, his safety is yet to be guaranteed, so I can't hold up my end of the deal.
"I'll be your girlfriend once Nolan is safe. Before that happens, the most I can do is cut ties with him."
Shaun laughed softly. "That's enough for now. Do you know where I'm headed right now? I'm on my way to see Mr. Lynch, so don't worry. I'll keep my word.
"Similarly, I hope you won't disappoint me, Audrey, and show me what I need to see. Otherwise, how am I supposed to believe you?
An embrace and a kiss? Just the thought of it made Audrey feel sick, but she dared not say anything.
"If there's nothing else, I'm going to hang up now." With that, she ended the call.
Shaun looked extremely pleased. Turning to Peter, he said, "Audrey will be cutting ties with Nolan, but that's not enough. I want to witness it myself, and I plan on holding her in my arms right in front of Nolan. Now that would be much more satisfying.
"How dare that brat look down on me. When the time comes, I'm going to watch him cry and be in utter despair!" Shaun roared in laughter.
