Audrey seethed with anger. Her younger sister refused to believe her, always taking Megan's side and constantly slandering Nolan.
Audrey was outraged. It was obvious that Megan was the one at fault. Why were she and Nolan being criticized?
Audrey had every intention of revealing all the secrets. But when she saw Kara's expression, she clenched her jaw, shook her head, and simply said, "Never mind. Let's just go to bed."
Audrey didn't want to discuss the topic any further after her words. However, Kara couldn't ignore the fact that she had just discovered a secret. How could she let Audrey go to bed without addressing it?
"Audrey, what did you mean by what you just said? What does it mean that if Megan hadn't begged hard and taken your place, perhaps it would be you and Nolan who got married? You need to say it clearly."
Audrey's brows furrowed as she replied, "That is all in the past. Don’t bring it up again. And I made a promise to Megan that this issue will remain buried in my heart.
"Regardless of the many misunderstandings between us at this moment, I will still uphold my promise. Please, Kara, don't ask anymore. Let's leave the past behind us."
Saying that was easy, but the more she listened, the more she craved to hear. It was like a hundred tiny claws scratching at her heart, preventing her from feeling even the slightest hint of drowsiness.
"Audrey, if you don't tell me, I'll just call Megan. I believe she won't hide it from me. And if that doesn't work, I'll track down Nolan and confront him about it. Either way, I will find out the truth."
As soon as Kara finished talking, she stood up eagerly, as if she couldn't wait to uncover the truth in the middle of the night.
Audrey's anxiety spiked as she stopped Kara in her tracks. "What do you think you're doing? You can't go find them."
Audrey let out a heavy sigh before recounting the story. "It was just a normal day, Megan and I were hanging out on the street when we saw Nolan lying unconscious after a serious car accident. Despite many people being around, no one rushed to help because the car was starting to catch fire.
"I risked my life to save Nolan, even though it put my own safety in jeopardy. As a result, my back was badly burned by the flames. You're aware of this, right?"
Audrey touched her back, agony flashed through her eyes. The memory of the fire and the intense burning sensation still lingered, causing her to feel frightened and uneasy.
At that point, Kara became quiet as well. She turned her gaze toward Audrey and spoke, "So, for all these years, you've never worn anything that reveals your shoulders or back. Even on the hottest days, you always cover yourself up so no one can see the scars on your back."
Hearing this, Audrey smiled and replied, "I'm a girl too. Of course, I care about my appearance just like any other girl."
