The three men looked at Tristan with a cruel smile. "Scared now? Weren't you acting tough just a few moments ago? If you want to talk, sure, we'll let you off. But on one condition—you kill Nolan yourself. That's a fair deal, isn't it?"
Upon hearing their terms, Tristan was on the verge of tears. He wanted to kill Nolan, but the problem was that he didn't dare to.
Nolan was under Lincoln's protection. If Tristan made a move on Nolan, even if the three mendidn't finish him off, Lincoln certainly would.
Tristan continued to negotiate. "Gentlemen, you must know of Lincoln if you're from the underworld. I work under him, and Mr. Greene is also a friend of his. There must be a misunderstanding between us. How about we settle this peacefully?
"Rest assured, if there really is a misunderstanding, we're willing to apologize and even compensate you. I promise that you won't leave empty-handed. What do you think?"
Tristan lowered his tone, dropping his pride. He even tried to use Lincoln's name in hopes that they would show him mercy.
Unfortunately, it was wishful thinking.
The men looked at Tristan and sneered. "Trying to use Lincoln's name to scare us? Hah! You should be worried about whether Lincoln knew that we were coming for Nolan when he sent you to protect him. If he knew, the smartest thing for him to do would be to stay as far away as possible. Heck, he should even help us."
"Do you really think Lincoln would dare to go against us? Even with three lives to spare, he wouldn't," one of the men said with a hearty laugh.
They clearly didn't see Lincoln as a threat. In fact, from their words, it seemed that Lincoln was the one who should fear them.
Tristan's heart sank at the realization that these three men weren't bluffing. If they were willing to mock Lincoln this openly, they likely had the power to back it up.
"Who exactly are you?" Tristan asked with a bitter face.
Lincoln's face turned livid. No one knew who had sent these three men except him.
It was precisely because he knew that he was worried and hoped there might still be a chance to smooth things over. But it seemed that the situation was out of his control.
What was worse, Archie had already made his decision, and the Thompson family had already sent someone to capture the target. That meant that they were all out of options.
Lincoln gritted his teeth, pulled out a handgun, and fired at the three men.
The crowd gasped in shock.
