The grand living room was filled with dozens of heavy briefcases. Layne looked at his mother.
"Did they give you a time for the drop?"
Seeing the cash finally secured, Mrs. Everhart breathed a sigh of relief, but she shook her head blankly.
"They told me to wait for their call. I haven't heard anything yet."
Mr. Everhart looked at his son.
"We'll keep you posted. Head back to the office for now, and I'll call you if anything happens."
With no other choice, Layne left. After comforting his wife, Mr. Everhart slipped upstairs to his study to secretly make a phone call.
Downstairs, Mrs. Everhart paced anxiously until an unknown number flashed on her screen.
She picked it up immediately. A man's gruff voice spoke on the other end.
"Follow my instructions. Bring all the cash. We have a team waiting for you. You come alone. No one else."
Realizing her husband was still upstairs, she quickly rounded up dozens of family bodyguards and loaded the briefcases into a fleet of SUVs.
Without saying a word to Mr. Everhart, she sped off toward the location the man provided. When Mr. Everhart came downstairs and saw the briefcases and his wife gone, he instantly knew what had happened.
Without a second thought, he called the police and ordered them to the Everhart estate immediately.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Everhart's massive convoy arrived at the drop point. The kidnappers ordered her to put all her drivers and guards into a single vehicle and wait alone. She complied perfectly.
Back in the basement, Felicia's guards yanked Leonie to her feet and shoved a black hood over her head.
She heard Felicia's voice and asked shakily, "Where are you taking me?"
Felicia laughed lightly. "You should be thanking your lucky stars you have a good mother. She brought the cash to save you, and she's buying your little boyfriend's life too.
