The Night I Let Go novel Chapter 84

Camila chuckled and reassured her, "Relax. John's a handful, but he'll still listen to me... most of the time."

"Let's hope so," Anya replied with a wry smile.

As dinner wrapped up, Anya suggested heading home, especially since they had work the next day. But Camila wasn't having it.

"What's the rush? I haven't seen you in over a month! Tonight, you're staying out with me until we've had fun."

The three of them stepped outside, and Camila grabbed Anya's arm, practically dragging her toward her car.

Anya couldn't argue against it, so she decided to throw caution to the wind and go along with Camila.

Zachary opted to stay out of it and was about to hail a cab home when he felt a firm smack on his backside.

He was stunned.

He instinctively stepped forward, then turned around, glaring at the person behind him who had reached out inappropriately.

When he saw that it was actually Camila, the anger on his face instantly vanished, replaced by surprise and confusion.

"Ms. Gaines, what was that for?"

"Zachary, right? Who said you could leave? After everything Anya's done to help you, you're really just going to leave her here?"

Crossing her arms, she looked at him disapprovingly. "Shouldn't you be stepping up to be her knight in shining armor tonight?"

He frowned slightly. "But you're just going out for some fun. It wouldn't be appropriate for me to tag along."

"We don't have a problem with it, so why do you have a problem with it? Stop being such a pain and just get in the car! Don't make me force you."

Not in the mood for debate, she grabbed his wrist and pulled him along, leaving him no choice but to relent.

Before he knew it, he was seated in the back of her car, with Anya in the front passenger seat.

"Thank you!" Wendy accepted the card and handed it over to Ethan with a smile.

Ethan tried to decline but eventually took it.

The elevator arrived, and Zachary followed Camila and Anya inside. At the same time, Wendy and Ethan were heading their way.

As the elevator doors closed, Wendy froze, thinking she had caught a glimpse of Zachary.

"Something wrong, Wendy?" Ethan asked gently.

"I thought I just saw Zachary," she replied, shaking her head, then dismissing the idea. "But it must have been my imagination. He would not show up somewhere this pricey in his situation."

Ethan's eyes gleamed with intrigue, and he asked cautiously, "You're not still hung up on that guy, are you?"
