The Night I Let Go novel Chapter 47

The sound of a slap echoed.

As soon as Wendy finished speaking, a fair hand slapped her arrogant face.

She was dumbstruck. She turned around and saw Anya's icy expression.

"Ms. Wayne, you…" Wendy was bewildered. She had no idea why Anya would slap her.

"Ms. Jennings, Zachary is my friend. How dare you treat him like this?"

Anya looked cold. She was the CEO of a listed company that was worth tens of billions of dollars. Her looks, demeanor, vibe, and background outshined Wendy's.

Wendy dared not show a hint of displeasure in front of Anya even after getting slapped.

It was a society where people competed over their family, background, and status.

Anya was burning in fury.

Wendy knew if she were to talk back or show any sign of anger, it would mean the end of her and Jennings Corporation.

"Ms. Wayne, you've got me wrong. Zachary is… my husband!" Wendy swallowed her pride and explained.

Anya sneered. "Is he really your husband? Ms. Jennings, are you kidding me? You said that Zachary is your husband, but you obviously saw it when that pretentious guy came to provoke your husband. Why didn't you come and stop him then?

"Now that your husband has taught that pretentious guy a lesson, you rush over angrily to speak up for him. Based on my observation, I don't think that Zachary is your husband. But that disgusting, pretentious guy is probably your husband. Isn't that right?"

Wendy was rendered speechless by Anya's mockery.

Wendy seemed to have mixed feelings and wanted to explain herself, yet she couldn't find a suitable reason.

At last, she could only apologize to Anya. Then, she was about to leave.

She could feel a surge of grievance. Her eyes brimmed with tears as she said in a husky voice, "You'd never do this to me in the past!"

"You were my wife then. I always let you have it your way because I wanted to maintain our marriage. Since we're divorcing, what makes you think that I'll still tolerate you?"

Zachary looked indifferent. He stared at Wendy as though he was looking at a stranger.

"Wendy, stay away from me from now on. I feel disgusted when I see you now!"

Wendy wanted to say something, but Zachary roared, "Get lost!"

"You…" Wendy gritted her teeth. As Anya was still next to her, she dared not do anything.

She shot Zachary a death stare and left in a huff without looking back.

Ethan saw that and quickly followed her.
