The Night I Let Go novel Chapter 41

Zachary hailed a cab and returned to the villa at Bayville after parting with Ellen.

He was stunned as soon as he entered the villa.

Anya, who was supposed to be in the CEO's office of Yel Corporation, was sitting on the couch in the living room with a straight face and her arms crossed.

She wore a baggy, silk camisole dress and crossed her legs elegantly. She looked grim and seemed to be shrouded in cold air.

Anya looked up when she saw that Zachary was back.

Her gaze was indifferent. She seemed to be holding back her emotions and was on the verge of losing it.

They exchanged glances from a distance. Somehow, Zachary felt slightly guilty.

It was such a strange feeling, as though he had done something wrong and was caught red-handed by her.

However, he hadn't done anything.

The atmosphere turned slightly awkward in an instant.

Zachary changed his shoes quietly until Anya broke the awkward silence.

"Where did you go?" Anya asked. Her voice was soft, so one could hardly tell she was questioning him.

"I went to visit a friend in the hospital," Zachary replied honestly.

She looked less indifferent when she heard his reply.

That was great. He didn't lie.

Then, Anya tilted her head and fixed her gaze on Zachary. "Was it just a friend?"

Zachary frowned and asked, "What else could it be?"

Anya's expression seemed more relaxed, but she sounded like she was sulking when she requested, "I want to taste your cooking tonight!"

"Why didn't you tell me earlier?" Zachary looked displeased.

He could've gone to the supermarket nearby to buy the ingredients on his way back if she had told him earlier.

"Are you blaming me?" Anya furrowed her brows slightly and pursed her lips, pretending to look angry.

Zachary acted promptly and picked the ingredients. After that, he went to the lifestyle store to get some basic necessities.

When he was making payment at the counter, Anya, who was behind him, grabbed a box of condoms and tossed it into the trolley.

Zachary didn't notice it until the cashier started scanning the items. His face was flushed red instantly. "I'm sorry, but this—"

Zachary was about to take it back when he heard Anya's voice from behind.

"Let's get a box. We'd be in trouble if I got pregnant!"

Zachary's eyes widened, and he turned around to look at Anya. He had no idea when she had started recording with her phone.

"Are you crazy?" Zachary asked, his cheeks red.

Anya blinked at him with a smile. "What if I get pregnant if we don't use it? Do you want to marry me if I have a baby? But… you aren't divorced!"

Anya's voice wasn't loud, but the female cashier and the people queuing behind heard her.

In an instant, everyone looked at Zachary with strange expressions.
