The Night I Let Go novel Chapter 23

Ellen stopped the car at a public parking lot near Yelbric University.

After getting out of the car, she tried to hook her arm through Zachary's, but Zachary evaded her.

Ellen didn't get mad. Instead, she put her hands behind her back and walked ahead with a smile.

Soon, the two arrived at a grill house.

As soon as the two sat down, Ellen placed their order. "Margaret, we'll have ten pork skewers, ten chicken skewers, a coleslaw, some grilled shrimp... and a case of beer."

The proprietress, Margaret Potts, stood nearby as she jotted down their order on a notepad.

"Ellen, it's been so long since you last came here. Is he… your boyfriend?"

As Margaret spoke, she gave Zachary a curious once-over.

It was obvious from her words that Ellen frequented this place.

Smiling, Ellen nodded and said, "Yeah. We've just started dating. I brought him here to introduce him to you."

Margaret grinned and said, "That's good. He's quite handsome. I can tell with just one look that he's a good man."

Zachary frowned. He wanted to clarify things, so he said, "I'm not—"

However, as soon as he started speaking, the customers at the next table called out to Margaret, who could only hurry over to them.

Ellen glared at Zachary with displeasure. "You're not what? Not a good man? Or not my boyfriend? Zachary, don't forget that your task today is to stay by my side. So, you should get serious and be more cooperative. Regardless of the truth, you have to agree with me."

"This is pointless." Zachary sighed softly. He couldn't be bothered to entertain her.

Zachary furrowed his brows. "Is that important?"

Ellen answered teasingly, "Of course it's important, since the call was from Ethan."

Zachary was silent, but there was a sharp pang in his heart.

He thought that he no longer loved Wendy and had gotten over her. Nevertheless, it was still somewhat painful for him to learn the truth.

Ellen continued, "Wendy left in a hurry that day because Ethan had unexpectedly returned from abroad."

Seeing that Zachary wasn't saying anything, Ellen smirked. "Do you know what he did after coming back?"

Zachary wanted to say that it was all in the past and that he didn't care anymore. But he couldn't help but ask, "What did he do?"
