The memory was so clear, there was no way she could be wrong.
Wasn’t Lottie supposed to be in Cabinda?
So why did Nora hear the sound of airplanes from the Isle of Veil?
Was it possible…?
The realization hit her all at once, making her heart race and her whole body tense with fear.
Could Lottie have already found out about the genetic mutation?
Did she discover the antidote was on the Isle of Veil and go looking for it?
That place was crawling with danger. How could Lottie just run off there?
“Mom, something came up. I’ll call you back soon.”
“Lottie…”
The call cut off before Nora could say anything more.
Nora sat there, still gripping her phone, her mind spinning with thoughts of the Isle of Veil.
Lottie had gone there…
No.
She couldn’t let anyone find out about Lottie. Not those people.
She jumped to her feet, ready to rush out, but a dizzy wave of blood rushed to her head. Everything went dark as she collapsed.
…
After ending the call, Charlotte pulled out her laptop and tried to locate Anthony again.
The green light on the map blinked twice, then disappeared.
His phone was off.
A moment later, Hans’s signal went dead too.
Charlotte climbed into the car and stared at the black screen in front of her, her eyes cold and sharp.
Why would Anthony come to the Isle of Veil now?
She sat in silence for a few seconds, then her fingers started flying over the keyboard. She found an unfamiliar number and dialed without hesitating.
