The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 976

“Grandma and… my mom, they both loved you so much.”

“Really?”

Robert’s eyes filled with tears. He lowered his head, sadness written all over his face. “Especially your mother…”

Right before Winnie passed away, she’d asked him to take good care of Nora. But how well had he really done that?

Watching Robert’s regret and sorrow, Charlotte’s heart twisted. She hesitated, wondering if she should tell him her mom was still alive. Grandpa would be overjoyed if he knew.

“Grandpa, what if Mom is actually still alive…”

Robert’s head shot up, his face full of shock. But the hope faded just as quickly, and he shook his head. “If I could, I’d trade years of my own life to bring your mother back.”

After that, Charlotte asked him all kinds of questions about Winnie. But it had been so long, and Winnie hadn’t wanted to leave any photos behind. There was nothing in the house that belonged to her at all. If only she could find just one picture.

When Robert finally went to bed, Charlotte returned to her own room. After her shower, she came out to find Anthony sitting against her headboard, hugging a pink pillow and watching her with those deep, thoughtful eyes.

As soon as he saw her, Anthony’s lips curled into a smile. He waved her over. “Lottie, come here.”

Charlotte wrapped her hair in a towel and walked over, settling into his arms. Anthony seemed to be in a pretty good mood. Charlotte frowned a little. “What’s with the smile?”

They still didn’t know for sure if Winnie was Mrs. W. It would be such a letdown if they were wrong. It was way too soon to celebrate.

Anthony didn’t reply. He just grabbed the hairdryer and started drying her hair for her, gentle and patient. When he finished, he reached into his pocket and placed something in her palm.

Charlotte looked down and saw it was a pocket watch with a chain.

A pocket watch?

“Open it.”
