The subordinate slipped out right away.
G2 watched Aloys closely, picking up on what had just happened. He swirled his tea, face set in a hard line. “That girl isn’t just anyone. Do you think she might be…”
Aloys’s eyes snapped up, cold and sharp. “You think she’s a mutant?”
G2 nodded. He’d seen the casino footage of Charlotte. The way she moved, the power in her strikes… no ordinary teenager could do that.
Aloys’s grip on his teacup tightened. A trace of regret flickered across his features. “It’s a pity she escaped,” he said, voice frosty.
“She’ll come back if she needs the cure,” G2 replied, lips curling into a thin smile. “And if she doesn’t, someone else will.”
Aloys frowned, puzzled. “Someone else?”
“Remember, there’s another mutant out there. She’s willing to risk her life to get the cure.” G2 sipped his tea, eyes glinting with calculation. After decades of waiting, this experiment was finally close to a breakthrough.

Three a.m.
The plane touched down at Cabinda International Airport.
Charlotte’s left leg buckled as she stepped off the plane. She stumbled, almost falling.
Anthony was there in an instant, steadying her.
Their eyes met. They both knew what it meant, without saying a word. First her hands had gone weak. Now her legs.
Anthony’s face tightened. Charlotte pressed her lips together, then looped her arms around his neck, forcing a smile. “Carry me.”
Anthony didn’t say a word. He shrugged off his jacket, wrapped it around her, and lifted her into his arms, carrying her to the car.
