The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 838

At the sound of his voice, the doctors rushed to the bedside. Mrs. Hawk looked so upset that Charlotte couldn't help but frown. She moved closer, wanting to see for herself what was going on.

She had barely taken a few steps when Mrs. Hawk, wild-eyed and desperate, grabbed something from the bed and hurled it at her. Charlotte froze, caught completely off guard. Luckily, Anthony was quick, pulling her out of the way just in time.

Charlotte stared at the pillow that landed by her feet, her confusion growing. Hadn’t someone said Mrs. Hawk liked people from Eldoria? So why did it feel like her presence was making things worse?

“Mrs. Hawk, please, you can’t get so worked up!” The maid sounded like she was about to cry. Mrs. Hawk was suddenly so strong, thrashing around like she’d lost all control.

“Easy, don’t hurt her.” Franco shot the doctors a warning look, his voice low and tense.

He turned to Charlotte, his tone heavy. “My wife isn’t herself today. She doesn’t want to see you.”

A few doctors tried to calm Mrs. Hawk, but nothing worked. Charlotte pressed her lips together, thinking for a moment before speaking up. “Let me check her pulse. Maybe I can help.”

Franco looked surprised. “You know medicine?”

“A bit,” Charlotte replied, edging closer to the bed.

But with every step she took, Franco could feel his wife trembling harder in his arms. Instead of seeking comfort, Mrs. Hawk seemed terrified of Charlotte. That kind of fear was new. He’d never seen her like this.

“Go… Go away! Don’t… don’t come near me!” Nora’s voice rang out, clear and desperate, as she struggled to push herself back.

“Yeah.” Anthony slipped his arm around her, brushed a hand over her cheek, and led her out of the room.

As the door closed behind them, Nora’s body finally relaxed. She lifted her head, eyes red and swollen.

“They’re gone, you’re safe now.” Franco held her close, voice rough with worry. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have brought strangers in here.”

Strangers? Nora stared at the door where Charlotte had disappeared. Her face went even paler, tears streaming silently down her cheeks.

That wasn’t a stranger. That was the child she had risked everything to protect.
