When Charlotte shot back her answer, clear and firm, every guard at the presidential residence stiffened. Nobody ever dared to act this bold here.
“This is the Presidential Residence. It’s not a place for you to mess around,” the head guard said, his voice cold. He glanced at Anthony, who stood right next to Charlotte, and asked, “Let the adult in charge speak for you.”
Charlotte just stared, momentarily speechless. Fantastic. Once again, everyone thought she was just a kid.
“Me?” Anthony raised an eyebrow, a hint of a smile on his lips. “Sorry, but in my house, I’m not the one who calls the shots.”
Jackson and Adonis both fell silent. Hans and Leif exchanged uncertain looks. The rest of the guards just looked confused.
“So, if Lottie says we’re not handing anything over, then we’re not,” Anthony said, running his fingers through Charlotte’s hair. He turned to the head guard, his eyes suddenly sharp. “You don’t get to decide here. Get Franco to come out.”
“You…” The guard’s brows knit together. He looked like he was about to say something else, but a second guard suddenly rushed over and whispered a few quick words in his ear. The head guard’s expression shifted, and he nodded right away. “Understood.”
He stepped aside and motioned for the other guards to move back. Bowing his head a little, he said, “Please, go in.”
“Come on,” Anthony said, keeping his arm around Charlotte as they walked ahead. The rest followed behind. The guards could only watch as the group strode right into the main hall, completely unfazed.
The head guard just stood there, lost. Since when did Franco agree to things so easily? He had no clue who these people were, and they were obviously carrying weapons. What if they tried something…
For the first time all day, Nora’s eyes sparked with life. Out of nowhere, her hand jerked up and knocked the bowl, spilling the medicine all over Franco’s shirt.
“Mr. Franco, are you alright?” The butler hurried over, worry in his voice. “Let someone else take care of this. You should go change.”
Franco looked at Nora for a long moment, trying to figure out what had gotten into her. He bent down and gently kissed the corner of her mouth. “Rest for a bit. I’ll be back soon.”
As Franco walked away, Nora’s eyes suddenly widened. Her lips moved, barely making a sound.
Don’t go.
