“No, no, hang on.” Glenn quickly stepped in front of Charlotte as she was about to leave, giving her a lopsided grin. “You can actually bring the component back?”
If she managed to, and they pulled off the experiment, Kingswood University would be the first in Astoria to pull this off. That would mean everything for the school’s future.
“Of course.” Charlotte smiled, sweet and innocent. She set the leave form on the desk, picked up a pen, and handed it over to him. “Just need your signature, Glenn.”
It wasn’t until Charlotte had walked out, leave form in hand, that Glenn snapped out of his daze. He ran a hand through his thinning hair, still stunned. Charlotte had to be loaded.

Imperial Heights.
Charlotte was curled up on her bed in loose pajamas, flipping through the things Nora had left behind. Books, a diary, a few scattered little keepsakes.
She’d looked through them all once before, right after she got them. Now, even checking again, nothing seemed out of place. Nothing mentioned the A1 Research Institute. Not a word about her father, that man she wasn’t sure she should love or hate.
Charlotte traced her fingers over the worn, faded mementos, her expression slowly turning cold.
He better have nothing to do with her mother’s death. Because if she ever found proof he was involved, she’d make sure he paid for it.
The next day, The Blair Group’s private jet took off from Cabinda and landed at Solenia International Airport.
Thanks to the auction, Solenia’s arrivals hall was packed. Charlotte had made a brief appearance here during the last competition, so to avoid trouble, Anthony buttoned up her trench coat, settled a hat on her head, and tugged a mask over her face before they left the plane.
She looked up and spotted a man in his fifties, standing tall and looking sharp among the crowd. Charlotte didn’t know him. They’d never even spoken. But everyone knew he’d pulled off some near-miraculous recoveries, making him a legend in the medical world.
“I heard Sunlight’s a guest at this year’s Global Medical Forum,” Jackson said quietly from behind. “And get this. He even took Franco’s bounty.”
Taking that job was gutsy, no question.
“Is that so?” Charlotte’s eyes lingered on Sunlight, cool and thoughtful. “That should be interesting.”
She was curious too. What kind of illness did Franco’s mysterious wife have that not a single famous doctor could cure?
