Before the new drug had a chance to make its mark in the medical world, it disappeared overnight. It never turned up anywhere, not in the market, not in any research journals. For years, scientists and medical experts poured their energy into tracking it down, hoping to uncover its secrets, but nothing ever came of it. Trying to recreate something that took decades of work, especially when you have nothing to go on, is basically impossible.
Adonis texted, Charlotte, this is going to be tough to find.
Charlotte frowned and replied, Put the A1 Research Institute stuff on hold for now.
Adonis answered, Got it, Charlotte.
Even her mother’s case was being put aside, which just showed how important Patricia was to Charlotte.
Then Jackson messaged, Charlotte, the two DNA test results you asked for will be ready at ten. I’ll send them to your email.
DNA test reports?
She’d been so caught up in everything lately that she had completely forgotten about them.
Nine replied, Okay.
She ended the chat and closed the app. Just as she was about to start digging for leads on the Covid-X compound, she felt a light blanket settle over her shoulders. Charlotte looked up and saw Anthony standing behind her in comfy loungewear, holding a plate of pastries, his face serious.
“When did you get here?” she asked, picking up a piece of cake and popping it into her mouth. She narrowed her eyes at him, playful and curious.
“Two minutes ago.”
“Really?” She raised her eyebrow, honestly surprised. She was usually hyper-aware of her surroundings and would have noticed if someone came in, but somehow she hadn’t.
Before she could turn back to her tablet, Anthony took it from her.
“What?” he asked, caught off guard.
Before he could say anything else, Charlotte leaned in and pressed her lips to his. Anthony froze for a moment, then slid his hand behind her head and pulled her closer, deepening the kiss.
Just then, the bedroom door swung open.
“Lottie…”
Lavinia stood in the doorway, beaming, but when she saw what was happening, she stopped in her tracks, completely stunned.
Well… this was awkward.
