“What do you mean, ‘no problem’?” Fedelia’s eyes went wide with surprise.
“It means none of you are going to jail,” Sun replied, his voice full of confidence. “And as for your daughter, even if she gets sentenced, I can get her a suspended sentence.”
A suspended sentence meant she’d technically be convicted, but as long as she kept her nose clean and followed the rules, she wouldn’t have to set foot in a prison. It was almost like getting off the hook entirely.
“Really?” Fedelia’s relief was impossible to hide. A grin spread across her face. “Sun, are you really sure we’ll win? I heard…” She hesitated for a moment, then added, “The other side hired a really famous lawyer. Supposedly, they’re incredible.”
Sun’s expression soured. In the legal world, he saw himself as the best, no question. The only blemish on his record was that one loss two years ago.
Just thinking about the mysterious Questlaw brought a flash of coldness to his eyes.
But Questlaw had retired a year back. Without her around, Sun was absolutely the top of his game.
“Talk to her,” Sun said, getting to his feet. He didn’t even bother asking who the opposing lawyer was. With his head held high, he strode out of the room without a backward glance.
“Fedelia.” Sun’s assistant stepped in, all business. “If Sun says he can win, he’ll win. Just sit tight and wait for the outcome.”
“Alright.” The Gates family might have money, but could they really find a lawyer better than Sun?
With that reassurance, Fedelia finally relaxed, ready to wait for the court date in two days.
…
The day of Letty’s trial came right on schedule. It was set for two in the afternoon.
What was he doing here?
Stella pressed her lips together, suddenly aware of her racing heartbeat. She sped up, hoping he wouldn’t notice her.
…
Not far away, in another waiting room, Sun stood by the window, watching the two people who had just passed by. He let out a quiet, mocking laugh.
“So the big-deal lawyer everyone’s been talking about is just Lyndon?”
He’d expected someone impressive, but it was just a student of Questlaw. It didn’t matter. Even if Questlaw herself showed up, Sun was sure he could take her down.
