Anthony caught the glare aimed his way and felt his brow twitch. A flicker of awkwardness crossed his handsome face, but he played it cool. “Morning.”

He didn’t let go of Charlotte’s hand. In fact, he held on even tighter.

Donald didn’t say a word. His cold eyes drifted from their joined hands to Anthony’s calm face, his own frown deepening. “Lottie, go wait over there for a bit.”

Charlotte pressed her lips together, her face unreadable as she lifted her gaze to Anthony.

Watching this made Donald feel even more stifled inside.

He’d just found out yesterday that Lottie had a boyfriend, and now, this morning, he saw the two of them coming out of the same room together. He didn’t need anyone to spell it out for him.

“Go on.” Anthony finally let go of her hand and gently brushed her hair, looking down at her with soft eyes. His voice was low and soothing. “Go sit on the bench, okay? Don’t wander off.”

He even pulled a milk carton from his bag, poked in the straw, and handed it to her. The way he did it was so natural, like he’d done it a thousand times before.

A thousand times… Had they been together that long?

Lottie had just started college. She wasn’t even nineteen yet.

Anthony really was something else.

Charlotte took the milk and sat quietly on a stone bench, her eyes following the two men standing off a little ways away. The tension between them was impossible to miss.

“Don’t forget, you left a gun with me,” Donald said, not bothering to hide what he knew, though he kept things vague. “Anthony, if you ever hurt Lottie, it won’t just be me you have to answer to. The whole Gates family will be coming after you.”

Anthony listened in silence. After a moment, he smiled a little. “If there’s a next life, I want to call dibs on her again.”

Donald’s voice lowered. “Remember what you said today.” He took the bag from Anthony, his expression finally relaxing a bit. “Everyone’s assembled. We leave at seven sharp. You might want to do something about that face of yours.”

Anthony was always too eye-catching. Just being the CEO of The Blair Group was enough to make waves among the students.
