L?
Anthony stayed silent, his face dark as he stepped into the elevator. His eyes were so red it looked like they might start bleeding. He’d better not have done anything to Lottie. If he had…
A minute later, they stepped out of the elevator together. As soon as they turned the corner, the sound of a fight erupted from one of the nearby offices. The walls were made of glass, so you could see everything that was happening inside.
Inside, a man in a military uniform and a girl in camouflage were locked in a fierce fight. Books and model planes had been knocked off the shelves. The computer and coffee mugs from the desk were lying shattered on the floor. The place was a disaster.
“Why are they fighting?” Hans blurted out, his face twisting in shock. “Wait, why is L fighting Charlotte?” Did everyone at White Whale have a death wish?
“Charlotte, look out!” Hans shouted as he saw Charlotte get forced back, stumbling as Donald pressed in. Hans was about to rush in and break it up, but someone beat him to it.
A shadow flashed past him, moving so fast it felt like a gust of wind. The glass door shattered as Anthony barreled through, ignoring the pieces of glass that scraped his arms. He made it to Charlotte’s side just in time, catching her by the waist and pulling her close.
Charlotte was in the middle of enjoying the fight when suddenly she was swept up into a warm embrace. She looked up, confused. “What are you doing here?”
“Go stand somewhere safe,” Anthony said, quickly scanning her face to make sure she wasn’t hurt. Satisfied, he nudged her to the side. “Wait for me right here.”
Before Charlotte could react, Anthony sprang forward with a quick flip and kicked out hard toward Donald.
Donald hadn’t seen it coming. He couldn’t get his guard up in time. Anthony’s kick landed on his arm and sent him crashing into the wall.
Cotton just stood there, completely lost.
What was happening? Why had Anthony suddenly jumped into the fight? And that kick… it was brutal.
