The next moment, Charlotte found herself in Anthony’s arms. He pulled her close, his cool lips brushing against her ear as he whispered, voice low and rough, “Never again. I could never love them enough.”
“Still mad at me?” Anthony turned her around to face him, his voice a little hoarse. “If you are, go ahead and bite me. As many times as you want, until you’re happy.”
“You said that yourself…”
Charlotte grabbed his collar, just about to lean in when a soft sound came from behind.
Both of them turned to look.
Stella stood at the corner, holding a phone, looking innocent and awkward. After a short pause, she quickly looked away and said, “Charlotte… your phone keeps ringing. I think it’s someone from the Isle of Veil.”
Worried about Charlotte’s health, Stella had built up the courage to interrupt. Who would’ve guessed—
Just last night these two were fighting so badly one of them almost left home, and now they were wrapped up in each other like this.
“Thanks.” Charlotte took the phone, got to her feet, and nodded at Stella. “There’s breakfast. You go ahead and eat, we’re heading out.”
“Okay.” Stella grinned and nodded, watching them leave before turning back to the kitchen.
There was an extra bowl of dumplings on the counter.
She hesitated, then picked up her chopsticks, carefully took a dumpling, and put it in her mouth. Not long after, she frowned and spat it right out.
Terrible.
How on earth did Charlotte force herself to finish that whole bowl? Poor thing.

“Ever since I heard you went to Apex, I haven’t slept for days.” As she spoke, Patricia’s eyes turned red and watery. “If anything had happened to you, what would I do?”
“Grandma, I’m okay.” Charlotte bent down a little, hugging Patricia tight and gently soothing her. “See? I’m home, perfectly fine. Not a scratch.”
“And the little one is doing just fine too.”
When Charlotte mentioned the baby, it seemed to finally click for Patricia. Her eyes widened with fresh worry. “Oh… I was so worried about you, I completely forgot about the baby.”
Charlotte opened her mouth, not sure whether to laugh or cry.

“It’s okay, as long as you’re all right.” Lavinia came forward too, looking at Charlotte with gentle concern. “Anthony said the situation in Apex has been brought under control.”
