The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1795

“Hm?”

He’s really not talking to me? Is he actually upset?

“Reading?”

Charlotte stepped into the room, balancing a tray. She set it down on the nightstand, then slid onto the bed beside Anthony. Leaning in close, she teased him with a grin. “This the book you went hunting for today?”

“Done with your work?”

Anthony glanced up. His gaze lingered on her face, cool and distant. “You should get back to it. No need to worry about me.”

He sounded so put out, it was almost funny. If someone overheard, they’d probably think she was icing him out on purpose.

She nudged his book away, took his hand instead, her voice turning soft. “I’m hungry. Will you eat with me, just a little?”

“I’m not hungry.” He didn’t pull away, but he wasn’t giving in either. He kept his pout going strong, eyebrows scrunched and all that attitude on display.

If nobody loves me, I’ll just starve here.

“You’re really not going to try any? Because this is—”

“Did you make it yourself?” he cut in, refusing to let go of his sulky act.

Charlotte rolled her eyes at him. “I brought it all the way up myself.” She leaned in and kissed him right at the corner of his mouth, her smile bright and mischievous. “Can you feel it?”

“Feel what?”

Anthony met her eyes, confusion flickering through the clouds of his sulk.

Charlotte just shrugged, totally unapologetic. “Nobody. I basically never do this for anyone else. It’s just you.”

That seemed to land right where she wanted—it eased something in him, his posture relaxing a little as he drew her close. He pressed his face into her neck, breathing her in deeply.

“Mrs. Blair, let me remind you. You’re a married woman now. You have a family. You can’t just toss me aside—getting what you want and then forgetting about me? That’s not allowed. That’s what jerks do.”

Charlotte almost laughed at his accusation, but honestly, he kind of had a point.

“I know the med school stuff’s been a mess lately, and I have been sort of ignoring you,” she admitted. She ran her fingers through his hair, soothing. “But I don’t bail on the people I love. We’re married. You’re not getting rid of me that easily. Your heart’s safe, okay?”

Anthony gave a dramatic little huff, like she was being unreasonable and he was actually the wounded one here.

She squeezed his hand and nudged the tray his way. “Now eat something with me.”
