The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1497

“Do you know the man in the hallway?” Kenneth spoke softly, letting Emily hold onto him as he gently wrapped a blanket around her shoulders.

“No,” Emily shook her head. She was still shaken up, her face pale and completely drained of color. “He said he was my fan.”

Kenneth just nodded. He didn’t push for more details. After so many years in showbiz, he’d met all kinds of fans, but never one this out of control. Someone who could chase her all the way to Brenland and slip into her hotel room so easily didn’t seem like a typical fan at all.

“What about you?” Emily finally felt steady enough to look at him. Her eyes landed on Kenneth’s arm, and she frowned in worry. “Why did you come to Brenland so suddenly? Did you hurt your arm when you stepped in?”

“No.” Kenneth’s lips curled into a small smile, his voice quiet and steady. “Why do you think I’m here? Don’t you know?”

Emily was still in a daze, her mind spinning.

Kenneth leaned in closer, their noses almost touching. He breathed her in, and the tension melted away just a little. “I missed you. Did you miss me?”

For a second, Emily just stared at him. All she could see in her teary eyes was Kenneth, and in his gaze, she saw only herself.

She had planned to say yes to him after filming wrapped and she was back home, but now…

“It’s fine if you didn’t.” Kenneth tried to lighten the mood, knowing how scared she’d been tonight. He hadn’t expected to make things even more awkward.

“Where’s the doctor?” Kenneth checked his phone, ready to call for help. Before he could dial, Emily spoke up again.

“I did.”

He barely caught her words. “What?”

A few silent seconds passed. He glanced at her, a little confused. “Sorry, what did you say?”

He wanted her heart, not her gratitude.

Emily stared at him, stunned. Did he seriously think that was the only reason she said yes?

Kenneth knelt in front of her again, his eyes gentle but determined. “It’s okay. I can wait. I’ve got a lifetime, and sooner or later, you’ll really want to be with me.”

Emily almost wanted to cry out of sheer frustration. She wished she could just open up his head and figure out what was going on inside.

“Feeling better now?” Kenneth asked, giving her a small, reassuring smile.

“I’m perfectly calm,” Emily replied, biting back another wave of tears. She looked him dead in the eyes. “Kenneth, I’m serious. Let’s be together.”
