“So,” Kenneth’s lips curled into a smile, his voice low and teasing, warm with a hint of laughter. “Give me a chance, Emily. Don’t make me chase after you forever. What do you think?”
“Who even says stuff like that…” Emily mumbled, her heart beating like crazy. “You’ve barely started and you’re already asking for special treatment.”
“So, does that mean I need to chase you a little longer?”
Her answer was all the encouragement Kenneth needed. He flashed a proud, excited grin. “So you’re saying I have a chance? Finally, you’re giving me a little hope!”
“Kenneth…” Her heart skipped faster as she bit her lip, hesitating before asking, “But how do you know you really like me?”
“How do I know?”
Kenneth leaned in a little, eyes dropping to her lips. His smile turned a little mischievous. “Well, like right now… all I can think about is kissing you. How much clearer does it get?”
“You…” Emily hadn’t expected him to say that so directly. She backed up two steps, cheeks burning. “It’s late. You should go home.”
Before he could say anything else, Emily clutched her bag and hurried off, half running, trying to calm her pounding heart.
Kenneth stayed where he was, watching her disappear with a smile he couldn’t quite hide. She wasn’t as indifferent as she wanted him to think. Sooner or later, he’d help her forget that loser from before. It would just be the two of them, nothing and nobody else.

When Emily got home, she ran straight upstairs to the balcony, peeking through the curtains as quietly as she could.
Kenneth’s car was still parked outside.
When Kenneth’s car finally disappeared down the street, Emily let herself relax for the first time that day. She lay on her bed, clutching her phone, reading and rereading their messages. She thought about what Kenneth had said: I like you, and I want to be with you.
Maybe soon she could actually be his girlfriend. After all these years, it felt like a dream was finally within reach.
She tried to calm down, but it only lasted about ten seconds.
A squeal of excitement escaped her. She flopped face-first into her bed, hugging her pillow tight, unable to stop smiling.
She grabbed her private account and tweeted: The guy I’ve been crushing on is chasing after me. What do I do? Help, advice needed!
Within two minutes, her notifications exploded with replies. Some were wild enough to make her jaw drop, especially the one that said, Forget everything else and just have a baby already.
