She clenched her hands, her voice icy but urgent as she leaned in to her bodyguard. “Get the antidote before Charlotte can do anything.”

The bodyguard shot a quick glance at Newell before meeting Damaris’s eyes, worry etched into his face. “But Mr. Churchill is still with Charlotte. If we act now, it could put him in even more danger.”

Damaris’s gaze dropped, her eyes rimmed red. “If we lose the antidote, he’ll die anyway. I know he’d understand.”

Understand? The bodyguard wasn’t sure he could. He couldn’t wrap his head around a mother choosing a cure over her own son’s life.

He looked around at the guns aimed at them, the airport boxed in by three rival groups. There was no way out.

Olivia pressed her lips together, her eyes dull and empty, her face void of hope. After a long, heavy silence, she lifted her head. The panic was gone, replaced by a wild, almost manic smile.

“If I’m headed for hell, at least you’re coming with me. Guess that’s something.”

She glanced down at the bracelet in her palm, her smile fading, her eyes turning dark and bloodshot. “Charlotte, I’ll be waiting for you in hell.”

The moment Olivia started to pull at the bracelet, Jackson and Adonis both went pale.

Three gunshots cracked through the air, one after another.
