The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1011

“I’m going to make you marry me, no matter what.”

“Okay.”

Anthony leaned down and brushed a gentle kiss across Charlotte’s forehead. His voice was soft, almost like a lullaby. “Go to sleep.”

With him beside her, Charlotte felt all the tension melt away. Warmth wrapped around her. It didn’t take long for her to slip into a peaceful sleep.

When he was sure she was really out, Anthony got up and stepped out onto the balcony. He pulled out his phone and called Dr. David. His voice was quiet, but there was a hint of urgency as he described what Charlotte had been going through.

“Lottie’s symptoms are getting worse.”

Dr. David was sitting on a sofa, surrounded by a small army of bodyguards. Even his phone was sitting on the table, not in his hand. The security around him was almost comical.

“When we get back tomorrow, Lottie needs a full check-up. Just tell me what you need, Dr. David. Whatever it is, I’ll make it happen.”

Even though Dr. David technically worked for Charlotte, Anthony always treated him with a certain respect.

“Anthony, you’re really putting me in a tough spot,” Dr. David complained, taking a slow sip of tea. “I work for Lottie, not you. If she hasn’t asked for it, how am I supposed to examine her? What if she gets mad at me?”

Anthony pressed his lips together, eyes narrowing a little.

“You’ve never seen her when she’s angry,” Dr. David went on, rubbing his forehead and shaking his head at the memory. “She’ll lock a person in the lab and put them through absolute hell.”

That got the bodyguards’ attention. They all looked up, curious.

“No sleep, just one meal a day,” Dr. David said dramatically. “I really had it rough.”

Anthony just stared at him, speechless.
