The Marriage She Turned into War novel Chapter 53

"Inappropriate?" I looked at her with a faint smile and asked rhetorically and calmly. "There's nothing improper between me and Sophia. Perhaps it's your filthy mind that twisted our relationship.

"Abigail, can't you take a step back and calm down? Everything you see will appear twisted if your heart is tainted."

My words left Abigail speechless. She couldn't utter a single word.

Those words I had just thrown to her were the ones she had once said to me.

I had been furious when she had brought her first man home to humiliate me back then.

However, in the face of my furious questioning, she had merely replied, "Why are you getting so worked up? He's just a newly hired spokesperson for my company. I brought him home only to discuss work matters. Why are you being so petty?"

I remembered my eyes reddening as I tried to suppress my anger and ask, "Is it necessary to discuss work matters at home and in the privacy of a bedroom?"

However, Abigail had laughed. She had raised her eyebrows at me and sneered. "There's nothing improper between us. Perhaps it's your filthy mind that's twisted our relationship.

"Samuel, can't you take a step back and calm down? Everything you see will appear twisted if your heart is tainted."

Those words that were once the bullets she had fired against me had come straight back to hit her between her eyes.

The bitterness she felt now was only a fraction of what she had once put me through.

She flaunted her man in front of me and humiliated me in every possible way.

How did she have the nerve to ask me if it was necessary to discuss work matters at home now?

How ridiculous.

I took the teacup on the table and poured her the tea. I looked at her hesitantly before asking, "Anyway, have you found a new job yet?"

Sophia shook her head. "Not yet. The market's rough right now, and assistant positions are usually one-on-one. It's rare for people to quit or get fired. So… it's hard to find a job."

She let out a heavy sigh halfway through her words.

I asked tentatively, "How about you work for me?"

She was slightly surprised at my words as she looked at me. "But… I've never been an assistant for a songwriter. I'm not sure where to start…"

"No worries." I smiled. "They're all pretty simple tasks. I'll teach you everything you need to know if you're willing to accept my offer."

Sophia nodded excitedly. "Alright! From now on, I'll be your assistant. Don't worry. I'm dedicated and responsible. I'll be the best assistant you could have by your side. You can trust me completely!"
