The endless back and forth with Abigail left me utterly exhausted.
I didn't even want to speak to her, only wishing she would disappear from my sight as soon as possible.
Abigail's gaze remained fixed on me, unyielding and resolute, as though she wouldn't back down until I gave her a definitive answer.
With a cold expression, she looked at me and said sternly, "Samuel, let me ask you. Between me and Sophia, who are you going to choose?"
For a moment, I didn't know how to respond.
I could only look at her helplessly, shaking my head as I replied softly, "Abigail, can you please stop forcing me?"
After hearing my answer, she couldn't help but let out a mocking laugh.
She shook her head slightly, then said to me in a calm but firm tone, "Samuel, stop it with the meaningless excuses. I want an answer from you right now!"
Her firm tone left no room for further delay or negotiation.
Taking a deep breath, I hesitated for a moment before I finally replied, "Abigail, can you stop pushing me? Right now, I don't want to pick either of you."
Hearing my words, Abigail's expression immediately turned grim.
She shook her head and let out a heavy sigh, then asked in frustration, "Why are you being like this? I'm your wife. Aren't you going to at least show me some respect and protect my dignity in front of others?"
I was stunned by her words. I looked at her hesitantly, unable to understand why she would say such things to me.
Grabbing her hand instinctively, I pleaded with her, "I'm begging you. Please!"
This was the first time Abigail had seen me like that. Tears welled up in her eyes as she closed them, not saying another word.
Seizing the moment, I quickly got into Sophia's car and left, finally leaving Abigail's line of sight.
Even as the car drove far away, I could still feel Abigail's gaze lingering on me.
During this time, I had been reflecting on my relationship with Abigail. I realized that no matter what I did, or how I did it, there was no way for me to make things right.
All I could do was place my hopes on Abigail, wishing that one day she would come to her senses and agree to a divorce, so we could live our own lives in peace.
