When Abigail saw the change in my expression, a flicker of hesitation flashed through her eyes. As if she suddenly realized something, she walked over to me and gently took my hand.
Her sudden action caught me off guard. Startled, I looked at her in confusion and asked softly, "What's wrong?"
Abigail smiled gently as she said, "Samuel, don't worry. I'm not going to see anyone else. There's just a small problem at work that I need to handle."
I stared at her in surprise. I hadn't expected Abigail to explain herself. After all, she had always been reluctant to explain such matters.
I had asked Abigail on many occasions to let me know where she was going so I wouldn't worry. However, she would often snap back in frustration, saying, "Samuel, that's enough. I'm just going to work, not out to party. Do you not trust me or something?"
Her sharp questioning left me feeling deeply ashamed. I didn't even know how to respond to her.
Eventually, I realized she disliked being questioned like that. So, I stopped asking altogether and let her do as she pleased.
But this time, she took the initiative to explain things to me. It was unexpected but also pleasantly surprising.
It had been a long time since I felt this kind of care from her. I found myself feeling a little unaccustomed to it.
Her tone remained soft and gentle as she said, "Samuel, trust me. You're the only one in my heart. Just stay home and wait for me, alright?"
"Alright." I nodded, not knowing what else to say.
Abigail looked at me with mild surprise. Her eyes softened, and she chuckled softly, "Alright, I'll be sure to come home early and enjoy the meal you cook for me!"
I watched as she left before returning to my room to get some rest. Just as I lay down, my phone rang. It was a call from Sophia, someone I hadn't heard from in a long time.
The moment I answered, she hesitated briefly before softly asking, "Samuel, how have things been between you and Abigail lately?"
I was a little taken aback and replied, "We're doing alright. Why do you ask? What's on your mind?"
Sophia didn't seem willing to explain further. She let out an awkward laugh and said in a soft voice, "As long as you two are doing well, that's all that matters. I was just checking in on you. If you ever need my help, don't hesitate to ask. I'll do everything I can to support you."
