George's expression was grim as he said, "As your friend, I can't just stand by and watch you give up on yourself and lose your life!
"You're coming with me for a reexamination right now! I need to see exactly how your health is holding up!"
With that, he grabbed me and dragged me to the examination room.
After instructing the doctor to run a full-body checkup on me, he held the test report in his hands, frowning deeply.
I gave a bitter smile and shook my head. "Well? Is it worse than before?"
Even though George didn't say a word, the look on his face told me everything I needed to know.
I took the report from his hands. Then, I gave him a serious look and shook my head.
"George, I know you're doing this for my sake," I said. "But I'm aware of my own body's condition. Don't worry. I'm not going to die anytime soon."
George's eyes reddened. He clapped me firmly on the shoulder and choked out, "Don't say stupid things! As long as I'm your doctor, I'm not going to let anything happen to you.
"Besides, Lana's surgery was a success, and she's recovering right now. If I could treat her, I can definitely help you!
"Also, do you really want Lana to know you're gravely ill and might not have much time left? Can you bear to see her heartbroken?"
George's questions left me speechless. I didn't know how to respond to him, nor did I know how to face Lana.
To be honest, I'd been trying to take good care of myself lately. But no matter how careful I was, my body's reactions didn't lie.
No matter how much I tried to maintain my health, my illness was so rare that it had been named after me. If it were a problem the world could solve, it wouldn't be named after me in the first place.
He repeated his instructions over and over as if talking to me more would ensure I'd be okay.
My nose tingled, and I nodded lightly. When I looked up at George, there was a newfound determination in my eyes.
"Don't worry, George. I'll take care of myself, and I'll take care of Lana too," I promised.
After leaving the hospital, I found myself unable to calm down for a long time.
Never before had I felt such a strong desire to live!
I wanted to live. I wanted to take care of Lana, watch her grow up, and see her get married and have children.
