Seeing me eating calmly, Abigail seemed quite pleased with my reaction. She didn't look at me anymore. Instead, she focused on her meal with a serene expression.

After breakfast, Abigail said gently, "Don't worry, I won't be going to work these next few days. I'll stay by your side and take good care of you."

It would've been fine if Abigail hadn't said that. But the moment those words left her mouth, I broke out in a cold sweat. I didn't even know how to respond to her.

After a long silence, I finally found an opening and smiled at her. "Got it. But don't overwork yourself. Your job should still be your priority. After all, we're married. We have plenty of time together, so there's no need to stress over it."

Her eyes lit up, her gaze softening as she looked at me. Smiling gently, she said, "Samuel, thank you for understanding me and being so considerate."

I smiled faintly and nodded. "Isn't that what I should do? Like you said, we're married. If there's work you need to take care of, go ahead. I'll handle everything here."

Abigail beamed with joy. She threw herself into my arms and laughed softly. "Samuel, thank you for understanding me. That's all I could ask for."

I didn't say anything more, nor did I know how to face her.

From the hotel to the car ride home, Abigail kept chattering nonstop. I had no idea how to respond, so I simply nodded and occasionally mumbled a reply.

Instead, I felt an overwhelming sense of helplessness, as if a suffocating, deathly presence lingered around me. It was intangible, elusive, yet ever-present. At any moment, it could strike like a sharp and merciless blade, ending everything.
